US Courses

Petra Basic Data Loading

Length: One Day
Topics:This one-day hands-on computer training class is designed to introduce participants to Petra project structure and organization, general data loading options, and basic project and data management functions, using the Main and Mapping modules.
Prerequisite: none
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion

Petra Basic Overview

Length: Two days
Topics:
This two-day hands-on computer training class is designed to introduce participants to the data management and analysis tools available in Petra. These tools are easily accessed through a series of modules which smoothly interface with each other. The Main Module stores all Petra project data and acts as a gateway to the analysis modules. Several of these modules are used in this course.
Prerequisite: None
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion

Petra Advanced Mapping Techniques

Length: Two days
Topics:
This two day course is designed for participants who completed the Petra Overview Training Class and want to advance further with mapping features and gridding. A basic or intermediate skill level is required for this course.
The Mapping Module is a powerful visualization tool that enables you to apply your knowledge and intuition to guide the development of conceptual models, to test and modify these models, and to create maps for use in exploration and development, acquisition evaluation, and decision-making. This class emphasizes the use of Petra, its database and computational functions, and its gridding and contouring algorithms to facilitate and amplify your creative process.
Prerequisite: Overview Training Course. Basic or intermediate skills are required
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion

Petra Advanced Cross Section and Correlation Techniques

Length: Two days
Topics: 
This course is designed for participants who want to advance further with cross section design and correlation techniques beyond the fundamentals learned in the Basic Overview class. It provides an in-depth focus on the Cross Section module, where log data and technology merge to illuminate your understanding of the subsurface. The Cross Section module is a powerful visualization tool that enables you to display and interpret log data in different ways and develop quality presentations. Viewing cross sections in Petra’s 3D Visualization module provides an added dimension to your interpretation.
In addition, the class provides practical experience with other Petra correlation modules. These include Slip Log, Log Correlation, Directional Well, and the Raster Log Calibration and Correlation utilities. Correlation techniques for picking tops, faults, and pay intervals are emphasized, for both vertical and directional wells.
Prerequisite: Overview Training Course. Basic or intermediate skills are required
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion

Petra Project Management Techniques

Length: One Day
Topics: Throughout this course, participants will gain knowledge of the organization and structure of Petra projects, as well as the various utilities available for managing projects. Participants will develop skills in managing user roles and project settings via configuration and restriction files, work in projects as users with various levels of restrictions/permissions, organize projects by business units, modify project locations and perform general project maintenance tasks, among others.
Prerequisite: This is an intermediate level course. It is recommended that participants have completed the Overview Training Course.
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion

Petra Data Management Techniques

Length: Two Days
Topics: Throughout this course, participants will gain knowledge of the organization of project data, as well as the various techniques for managing data. Participants will develop skills in importing and exporting data, organizing data using aliasing, reordering, and renaming utilities, quality checking data, correcting data issues, performing data inventories, tracking and documenting data changes, among others.
Prerequisite: This is an intermediate level course. It is recommended that participants have completed the Overview Training Course.
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion.

Petra Getting Started

Length: 1/2 day
Topics: This FREE class is an introduction to Petra functionality. It covers project creation, data import and the basics of calculations, mapping and cross sections. This is an ideal course for technologists and or new users interested in Petra start-up workflows.
Credits: Class hours can be used towards APEGA professional development credits.
Prerequisites: None
Format: Hands on exercises paired with discussion

Petra Basic Overview for Geoscientists

Length: Two days
Topics: This two-day hands-on computer training class is designed to introduce participants to the data management and analysis tools available in Petra. Topics: Class is intended for engineers and geoscientists. Covers production calculations, normalizing production, decline curve analysis, volumetric and waterflood/pattern analysis.
Credits: Class hours can be used towards APEGA professional development credits.
Prerequisite: Petra Basic Overview or an in-depth working knowledge of Petra is required
