Mr. John J. Mulholland serves as Vice President of IHS Chemical Strategy Consulting, for the IHS Chemical group.

​Mr. Mullholland is responsible for the sale and delivery of IHS strategy engagements globally. With more than 25 years in the chemical industry, he has extensive experience in advising senior industry executives on critical strategic issues and complex business challenges.Mr. Mullholland joined IHS in 2012 from Charles River Associates (CRA) where he was a Principal in the chemicals practice, managing C-suite and other senior management relationships of key clients. Prior to CRA, he spent nine years at Accenture where he was the Partner responsible for leading the firm's North American chemicals strategy practice. Mr. Mullholland also held senior management positions at e-Chemicals, a supply chain services company and at the consultancy Arthur D. Little. He began his career in sales and marketing at Shell Chemicals. He holds a degree in B.S., Chemical Engineering from University of Michigan. MBA, Finance and Marketing from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.

In addition, he was a member of the leadership team responsible for overseeing practice activities and client work.  Prior to CRA, he spent nine years at Accenture where he was the Partner responsible for leading the firm's North American chemicals strategy practice. Mr. Mullholland also held senior management positions at e-Chemicals, a supply chain services company and at the consultancy Arthur D. Little. He began his career in sales and marketing at Shell Chemicals.  Specific experience includes the following: Advanced Materials Growth Strategy - Identified growth and procurement opportunities associated with direct and indirect effects of the North American "shale gale” that would enable client to achieve a goal of 10% CAGR over a five year period. Led joint team in a process to identify over 400 market opportunities and select the best 65 for analysis. Using a rigorous screening approach, ultimately selected the top opportunities, including growth in four key end markets and a procurement opportunity to fund the growth. As part of the effort, developed action plans including proposed acquisitions and partnerships to accelerate entry and increase traction in new markets. The CEO and senior leadership of the company ultimately approved to move forward with all 5 proposed strategies/plansCommodity Chemicals Growth Strategy - Facilitated the development of the corporate strategy of a leading global producer.  Analyzed existing business strategies, examined key value chains from a corporate perspective and developed a robust financial model incorporating macro-economic cycles.  Proved that the client organization was one of the most attractive businesses in parent company's portfolio in terms of value creation and sustainability.  As a result of the work, the holding company board approved the client's aggressive growth strategy. Thermoplastics Acquisition Evaluation - Evaluated candidate for major plastics producer. Characterized target's business, quantified synergies and integration costs, and developed dynamic financial model of combined business. Client subsequently made a bid for target company. Thermoplastics Market Opportunity Assessment - For a venture capital backed startup with novel technology, assessed technology competitiveness, addressable market and value creation potential. In addition, identified potential partners to aid in market entry. As a result of work, client initiated discussions with identified partner candidates.
