Select experience: Project Support for Proposed New Petrochemical Projects in South America – Pam was part of a project team that provided a global petrochemical market overview, a high level marketing plan and a comparative cost analysis for a number of olefins and refinery –based aromatics derivatives. The project included product configurations for olefins and polyolefins, naphtha cracker and co-products, and aromatics derivatives, as well a chlor alkali-vinyls chain, ammonia-urea and fertilizers, methanol, and a number of inorganic chemicals. IHS provided detailed local demand and demand drivers, supply and demand data, target export country pricing and netback pricing, delivered competitive cost, and preliminary financial modelling scenarios, and plant configuration. Polyethylene Market Analysis and Bio-Polyethylene Cost Competitiveness in South America – Pam was project manager on a number of different studies conducted for potential joint venture partners looking to build sugarcane-based ethanol, ethylene and "green" polyethylene (PE) capacity. To support this business decision, the clients requested an independent analysis of the global and regional polyethylene market and green PE demand, with a focus on Brazil and other surrounding South American countries. It was critical for the potential partners to understand the cyclicality, and market drivers for PE, as well as the likely success of this venture in terms of interest in Bio-PE, current price premiums over conventional PE, and cost competitiveness of a bio PE plant versus competitive petrochemical based PE plants, as well as South American PE imports from the US. Downstream Projects Studies – Pam has worked with Latin American and Mid East clients looking to develop downstream resin converting projects to add value to their existing resin businesses. These clients were hoping to motivate the private sector to make viable investments in downstream industries to grow employment in their respective countries. The project teams utilized a three-phase approach by first identifying and screening potential projects with merit, moving to a more detailed pre-feasibility analysis of the top 10 to 15 projects, and then finally completing a full feasibility evaluation including project development, financial projections, market entry and value-added economic analyses justifying each project. Lenders Market Consultant – Pam has worked on a number of projects supporting potential Latin American joint ventures, where IHS Chemical was asked to provide market consultancy services on behalf of prospective lenders to a petrochemical project. These joint ventures were formed to develop, construct and operate olefins and polyolefins complexes, based on ethane and also on bio-ethanol. Project support from IHS Chemical included pricing forecasts, supply/demand/trade analysis, cost competitiveness, upstream review, key competitor profiling, & review of financial models and marketing plans.
