Chris Williamson is Chief Business Economist at IHS Markit. He joined the company in 2008 following the acquisition of NTC Economics, a provider of global macro-economic indicators. He has 24 years of experience as a professional economist.
As chief economist, Chris is regularly quoted in the international business press, is frequently interviewed on business and mainstream television and radio and speaks at conferences on world-wide economic issues. Chris also sits on a number of economic advisory panels.
Chris has played a major role in the company’s development as a world-leading provider of business surveys and economic indicators, including the founding of the firm’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) series. The PMI business now encompasses all major economies and the surveys are commonly cited as some of the most important sources of economic information available to central banks, financial markets and business decision makers.
Chris studied economics at the University of Nottingham and Economic Development at the University of Manchester.
Pierre Goffinet has served first as a Marketing Director and International Affairs Director for Global Trade Information Services, Inc. (GTIS), now part of the Maritime & Trade division of IHS Markit.
He was in charge of the Geneva office and handling market development for Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia and African countries. In addition, he has worked closely with a number of specific governments, such as the Vietnamese, and Indian as well as the French and Italian Governments.
GTIS was assisting its international clientele in understanding the global marketplace and in providing a different and better approach to using trade data. It provided the official trade data of over 85 countries to subscribers around the world. These subscribers included the national and state governments of major trading countries, multinational companies and their business association, universities and libraries, ports, law firms, commodity brokers and many others.
Since 2014 and the acquisition of GTIS by IHS, Mr. Goffinet has been part of the Maritime & Trade sales team as Director of Sales and is since December 2015 Head of Global Trade for the EMEA region. His role is to present and implement the new IHS vision on trade information based on the existing solutions portfolio which generated from the acquisition for JOC group and GTIS.
Before joining GTIS, Mr. Goffinet headed his own business called FranSnack S.A. which he created to produce snack food for the major retailers in France and Belgium. His company was subsequently bought by a major agri-business group.
In addition, Mr. Goffinet has honed his expertise as an International Trade Analyst in interpreting and analyzing trade data flows for businessmen and governments around the world.
John Raines currently serves as the Head of Political Risk with IHS Markit, a global intelligence firm based in London, where he manages the production of IHS Markit political risk materials. As IHS Markit lead analyst for US foreign and domestic policy, John has appeared in numerous media outlets, from CNN, BBC, CNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, The Associated Press, amongst many others. He has previous work experience with the US Department of State, where he held jobs responsible for conducting economic policy for the US Embassy in Panama and overseeing the American Citizen Services Unit in Hong Kong. He also worked at the World Bank, where he managed several projects in the production of the World Development Indicators (WDI). Other assignments have included the US Treasury Department, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the World Trade Center. John has master's degrees in international relations and political science from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Study (SAIS) and Ohio State University respectively.
