IHS Markit is hosting the inaugural Maritime & Trade Washington DC Briefing at The National Press Club on September 13, 2017.

Join our Maritime & Trade experts on 13th September at the National Press Club as we review the latest developments in container shipping, the impact of recent cyber security attacks and how all of this and more impacts international trade.

Container Shipping: Finding Efficiencies Amid Disruption
Riding a wave of consolidation, the global container shipping industry is inching closer to ending deep losses caused by overcapacity. Meanwhile, US ports are grappling with the deployment of mega-ships that can cause congestion, and the threat of labor disruption still haunts supply chain stakeholders two years after devastating slowdowns on the US West Coast. Encouragingly, new technology developments promise to provide shippers with increased visibility and control of their containerized supply chain. Backed by JOC reporting and research, JOC Executive Editor Mark Szakonyi can field questions on intermodal rail, China’s Belt & Road initiative, container terminal consolidation, the impact of the expanded Panama Canal, and other major issues.

Cyberattacks on Shipping: The Invisible Threat
The global cyberattack that hit shipping giant Maersk in late June sparked a new level of concern about IT vulnerabilities in the maritime sector. Less than three weeks after the attack, the US Coast Guard initiated a Navigation and Inspection Circular requesting comments for addressing cyber risks at USCG-regulated port and terminal facilities. John Gallagher, senior editor of Fairplay magazine, will provide a status report on where the US and the International Maritime Organization stand on cyber regulations and guidelines, and will present the findings of the most recent IHS Markit-backed survey on maritime cybersecurity readiness.

Global Trade: Where Do We Go From Here?
With recent developments in trade agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and BREXIT, we will explore the impact for importers and exporters, the US at large and its trading partners. Tim McLaughlin, a senior manager in the M&T data division and expert in global trade intelligence, will explain how exclusive IHS Markit data regarding trade trends by country and commodity can assist you in trade negotiations, while answering your questions regarding US imports and exports and international trade.

By attending this briefing, you will be able to hear first-hand the major developments and the impacts on global trade.
