Firas Modad is a Director for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He is experienced in forecasting political and violent risks for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. His expertise includes Middle Eastern economics and Islamic finance. He focuses on Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Egypt, with a concentration on political stability and the rise of Islamist militant groups.
Firas has briefed executives and directors in insurance the insurance and energy sectors, as well as C-level executives at blue chip firms with interests and operations in MENA. He has helped clients understand the rise of the Islamic State, the key drivers of the conflict between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Russia and Iran, and the likely evolution of these conflicts and the ensuing risks. Firas also makes regular appearances on the media, and has been interviewed by Reuters, Bloomberg, the BBC, CNN, ABC News, Newsweek and others.
Firas holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon, and a Master of Science in International Management for the Middle East and North Africa from the University of London in the UK.
Kusay Alkhunaizi is a Senior Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Planning in Saudi Arabia for more than a year now. Before that he worked as staff Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC covering the Middle East and Central Asia for around five years. Prior to the IMF, he was the Chief Economist of the Saudi Credit Bureau (SIMAH) in Riyadh and worked previous to that as a Senior Economist at the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA). Kusay holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Leeds, an MSC in Financial Economics from the University of Southampton, a Masters’ degree in Economics from Boston University, and a Bachelors’ degree in Management Information Systems from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
Mohsen is a Managing Director in Consulting Group of IHS Economics, working with the broad global applied economics team, he brings years of experience in macroeconomic, industry and regional analysis with a strong focus on economic impact assessments and applications of market planning. He has worked with a wide range of clients, helping them to size their markets, undertook contribution and impact analysis, prepared industry and market analysis, and has constructed models to predict product demand to better target marketing efforts. Mohsen has been responsible for development of a detailed regional database application (Business Market Insight) and global information and communication technology capability. He has particular expertise in regional economic impact assessment and is fluent in the application of regional economic modeling tools to a wide array of issues and policies. His areas of expertise are Economic Impact Analysis, Business Market Insight, Global Market Intelligence, Industry Analysis, Global Information and Communication Technology.
Matthias Herles is a Director of Consulting in the Economics and Country Risk team. He manages client relationships for applied economic consulting projects in Europe and in the Middle East and provides project management in areas such as economic forecasting, scenario analysis, impact analysis, risk, business planning and market sizing. This includes on-site project management, for example the overall responsibility for developing and implementing an economic model used by the staff of a GCC Ministry of Presidential Affairs department. During his employment with the ministry in 2010 and 2011 Matthias designed and delivered complex analytical country and industry reports based on statistical data.
Besides his strong economic background, Matthias has an excellent understanding of the automotive industry and managed the IHS business relationship with major automotive OEMs and the biggest TIER 1 suppliers between 2012 and 2014.
Matthias joined IHS in 2000 just prior to the acquisition of Wharton Economic Forecast Associates (WEFA) into Global Insight and has served in a variety of roles of technical and client support. Matthias received a Diploma in Economics at the University of Regensburg, Germany and speaks German, English, Spanish and French. He is based in our Frankfurt office.
Walt Madeira is Senior Analyst, Europe & Middle East, and Africa Vehicle Sales Forecasts - IHS Automotive. He is responsible for tracking macroeconomic developments that underline the future global automotive industry and vehicle sales forecasting for countries in the European, Middle East and African markets. The development of deep dive forecasting methodologies for Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa have recently been undertaken as the global automotive industry shifts attention towards the future regional development and rising demand of emerging MEA markets.
Walt has +15 years of direct experience in analysing and forecasting demand trends and car sales in the global automotive industry. Walt is experienced in strategic assessment of future new product developments, vehicle launch planning scenarios, provides OEM reviews of brand strategy analysis, identifies profitable niche segments, understands key legislative issues and monitors the social demographic cluster movements driving the shifting patterns in buying behaviour. Prior to joining IHS, he had many years of experience at a global OEM within the Sales and Marketing and Distribution planning departments.
Mr. Madeira holds a degree in Business Administration and Marketing from ISCTE Lisbon Business University and has completed executive courses in Global Economic Imbalances at LSE - London School of Economics.
Moulay Rachid Salim is a Product Manager within IHS Markit Product Management organization. Salim is responsible for IHS Markit data platform solutions and oversees the commercial direction of IHS Markit historical data business across all market segments. Salim also manages several of the products in the Industry vertical, including Construction and serves as a support lead for ECR product portfolios in the MENA region. Prior to joining IHS Markit in 2000, Salim was a Technical Support Engineer with IBM Global Services responsible for support of IBM software products and resolution of customer technical issues. Salim holds a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Boston University and a Master in Business Administration from Babson College.
