IHS Markit colleagues are passionate about making a positive impact in their communities. In addition to corporate sponsored events, colleagues provide support to over 700 organizations and institutions around the world through volunteering, philanthropic giving, In-kind donations and participation at the board level on many nonprofit organizations. These opportunities reinforce colleague engagement company-wide.

IHS Markit Volunteering in Global Communities - Video
As part of our strategy to advance education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), IHS Markit donates a significant amount of our geological, oil and gas software products to universities as in-kind donations. A majority of our donations consist of IHS Petra, Harmony, and Kingdom. IHS Kingdom - a solution that allows geoscientists to make more accurate decisions about where and how to drill for oil and gas - represents 63% of our total US$ 184 million donation. IHS Markit colleagues are integral to our sustainability efforts, contributing innovative ideas, sharing time for charitable causes, raising awareness and making personal donations.
Volunteer Time Off Benefit
Introduced in FY2013, the Volunteer Time Off (VTO) benefit offers an annual full day of paid time off for all colleagues globally, to volunteer during the work day. With this new benefit in place, IHS Markit colleagues volunteered more than 31,000 hours in 2015 (a 38 percent increase from 2014). Our 2016 volunteer goal is 25,000 hours, which will help us exceed 100,000 volunteer hours since 2012.
We use a third-party annual survey to measure the professional opportunity and experience we create for every colleague. Our 2015 Colleague Engagement score was 72% (a 20 percentage point increase from our 2011 score) as IHS Markit maintained its position in the Global High Performance/Top Quartile range of companies.
Another measure of colleague commitment to the company and our culture is attrition. In 2014, our voluntary attrition rate was 7.4%.
IHS Markit Sustainability Awards
To drive participation and celebrate progress, IHS Markit has a quarterly award program recognizing IHS Markit colleagues who take initiative to promote sustainability. In the spirit of sustainability, the award itself is sustainable, in which winning entrants microlend to a project of their choice through KIVA©. Since 2009, we have had 633 award nominations and 245 winners. In addition, we also recognize leadership and role modeling in Sustainability, through our Annual Sustainability Leadership Awards program. This includes recognition of one individual in the company who demonstrates leadership and role modeling in sustainability, and, our top offices, most engaged in sustainability.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Program
IHS Markit is committed to providing and maintaining safe and healthy working conditions for our colleagues, visitors and suppliers, and to provide controls, information, training and supervision as necessary. Click here to view the IHS Markit WHS policy statement. IHS Markit is committed to addressing workplace incidents and in 2015 introduced a new process to improve tracking at the global level. In 2015, the total recordable incident rate for the US was 0.127 and the recordable injury frequency was 0.018.
Caught for Caring Customer Care Program
This peer-recognition program enables IHS Markit colleagues to recognize one another, as they are ‘caught in the act’ of providing exceptional customer care – internally or externally. Since its inception in 2010, over 1,500 colleagues have been recognized and over 7,249 award tokens have been received. In 2014, 33 colleagues chose the environmental reward and donated USD $1,075 to American Forests Organization.
The Prevention Plan© and Wellness Credits
US colleagues can participate in The Prevention Plan©, where they can learn and track healthy life choices. In 2013, IHS Markit paid $203,992 for the Prevention Plan for employees and covered spouses. This included an online health assessment, free blood work and a personal health report. In addition, IHS Markit paid out $638,050 in Wellness Credits to employees and spouses who completed the Prevention Plan steps.

IHS Markit is a signatory of the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in a continued effort to actively participate in, and contribute to, advancing equality.

The Civic 50
In 2016, IHS Markit was recognized as one of America's 50 most community-minded companies byThe Civic 50, an annual initiative from Points of Light that identifies and recognizes companies who invest talent, time and resources to partner with and help improve the communities where they do business.
From 2012-2016, IHS Markit was named to The Denver Post's and Houston Chronicle's Top Workplaces lists.
