Energy Institute (EI)

EI standards, guidelines, measurement manuals and conference proceedings for testing and measuring petroleum products

  • The Energy Institute (formerly the Institute of Petroleum and the Institute of Energy) publishes standards for test methods based on both traditional and modern instrumentation techniques that are necessary for national and international trading of petroleum and petroleum products. This compilation of test methods contains all the procedures that are required for checking product compliance with a variety of specifications including:
    • European/ British automotive fuel specifications for diesel fuel, BS EN 590
    • European/ British automotive fuel specifications for unleaded petrol, BS EN 228
    • European/ British automotive fuel specifications for LPG, BS EN 589
    • British/International specification for petroleum fuels for marine oil engines and boilers, BS MA 100/ISO 8217
    • MOD defense standards for fuels and lubricants
    In addition, the collection contains test methods for the quality control of crude oils, lubricating oils, lubricating greases and waxes.
