International Steam Coal Prices Test the Market Floor

International steam coal prices have drifted down over the past year from the mid-$120s per metric ton delivered to Northwest Europe to just under $100 per metric ton, as the market has tipped into oversupply. With Chinese and Indian buying interest weak today but close to reviving, market differentials have widened to the point where Colombian exports may earn better returns in Asia than in Europe.
