The conference focuses on looking at India's domestic power production, review of government policy, domestic coal production, Indian transport logistics, shipping markets, import ports. Review of India's coal importing countries: South Africa, Australia and Indonesia for met and thermal coal. There will also be a special focus on South African and Sub-Saharan coal production.
The Indian coal industry continues to evolve as industrial growth maintains pace. IHS McCloskey and mjunction are partnering again to hold the 5th Indian Coal Markets Conference and Awards Dinner.
Coal imports to India reached 90mt in 2010 and are further expected to touch 110mt in 2011 despite current high prices. This has largely been a reflection of growth in the economy through expansion of infrastructure and electricity supply, but is also a result of continued insufficient quantity and inferior quality of domestic coal available. However, with an annual shortage of 137mt in 2011-12, the question remains as to how India will address this shortfall to meet the growth in domestic demand.
India currently imports 70% of the coking coal needed for its steel production but projections suggest domestic steel production is expected to increase by 22% to 85.34mt in 2011 - 2012. With this increase in demand and tightening of global supply, India’s steel industry needs to revisit its strategy to ensure security of supply.
Over this two-day conference the following topics will be covered:
