Petra v4 Introduction
The Petra v4 Introduction class is a half-day overview of Petra v4, which uses a dedicated Windows database server. The course includes group discussion of both the abstract background and practical details involved in upgrading to this version and class exercises providing practical experience with the new version. The target audience is primarily IT and administrators, but also applies to those individuals who normally update Petra.Petra Overview for Geoscientists - View course outline
This two-day class is an introduction to Petra, with hands-on exercises in data management, mapping and cross sections. It is intended for those who are just beginning to use Petra or who have used Petra for a while, but not had any formal training on Petra in the past.Petra Overview for Engineers - View course outline
This two-day class is an introduction to Petra from an engineering perspective. It is designed as an overview for engineers and engineering technicians. The course includes hands-on exercises in data management, iso-data mapping, decline curve analysis and production calculations. It is similar in design to our Petra Overview for Geoscientists and is intended for those who are just beginning to use Petra or who have used Petra for a while, but not had any formal training on Petra in the past.Petra Applied Engineering - View course outline
This is a pragmatic, advanced course for experienced Petra users. The course is designed to give the students a practical, hands-on experience using the tools and capabilities of Petra to complete an exploitation/development project. Students will complete a series of workflows to solve a real-world problem: identifying and evaluating infill drilling locations in a mature oilfield.Workflows include: selecting wells using specific data criteria, decline curve analysis and EUR determination, calculating drainage areas and creating elliptical drainage maps, using structure and isopach maps, volumetric analysis, identifying and adding new well locations, normalizing and analyzing analogous group production data, predicting well performance and creating cross-sections through the proposed locations.
Note: This is not a how-to, lecture-based course. This is an advanced course; students should have a good working knowledge and experience using Petra and come prepared to complete the class exercises.
Petra Advanced Mapping - View course outline
This course is designed for participants who have completed the Petra Basic Training Class and want to advance further with mapping features and gridding. The Petra Basic Training Class teaches participants the basic Mapping Module skills that form the foundation for this advanced-level course. This Petra Advanced Mapping Class will bypass most of the information covered in our introductory class so that we can focus on more advanced mapping techniques.Petra Mapping Module is where creativity and technology merge to turn ideas into reserves. IHS has designed the Map Module to be more than simply a base-mapping or contouring tool. The Mapping Module is a powerful visualization tool that enables the user to apply his or her knowledge and intuition to guide the development of conceptual models, to test and modify these models and to create maps for use in exploration and development, acquisition evaluation, and decision-making. This class emphasizes the use of Petra, its database and computational functions and its gridding and contouring algorithms to facilitate and amplify the creative process.
Prerequisite: Petra Overview or an in-depth working knowledge of Petra is required.
Petra Advanced Cross Section - View course outline
This course is designed for participants who have completed the Petra Basic Training Class and want to advance further with cross section design and presentation. The Petra Basic Training Class teaches the fundamental Cross Section Module skills that form the foundation for this advanced-level course; therefore, only a brief review of the basics is included, so that you can focus on more advanced techniques.Petra Cross Section Module is where log data and technology merge to illuminate your understanding of the subsurface. The Cross Section Module is a powerful visualization tool that enables you to display log data in different ways, highlight and tabulate pay and ultimately interpret the data for use in exploration and development, acquisition evaluation, and decision-making. This class emphasizes the use of Petra, its database and computational functions and its log display tools to facilitate and amplify the creative process.
Prerequisite: Petra Overview or an in-depth working knowledge of Petra is required
Onsite Training
We also deliver onsite training for companies with a need to have a large number of people trained. These classes are typically overview classes, similar to the scheduled classes, but can be customized to focus on specific topics. Please contact us online if you have interest in scheduling an onsite class.
