National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA)
NECA publishes performance standards for use in electrical systems.
-
The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) publishes performance standards for electrical construction that are contained within the National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS). These voluntary codes are produced in partnership with NECA members and other industry organizations and are ANSI approved.
Code officials, engineers and other personnel involved in the design, build or maintenance of a construction project use NEIS. NEIS are the first performance standards for electrical construction and go beyond the basic safety requirements of the National Electrical Code to clearly define what is meant by installing products and systems in a "neat and workmanlike" manner.
Referencing NEIS saves spec-writing time, provides control over workmanship and ensures long-term performance. As part of a contract document, NEIS significantly improve the working relationship between engineers, electrical contractors, owners and facility managers.
NECA standards are written to provide advice and guidance only and adherence to them is wholly voluntary.
NEIS address topics such as:
- Symbols for electrical construction drawings
- Steel conduits
- Fiber optic cables
- Switchboards
- Motor control centers
- Generator sets
- Indoor commercial lighting systems
- Exterior lighting
