IHS Petrodata Weekly Rig Count

The supply of mobile offshore drilling units in the world has risen by one this week to 924 as a result of a newbuild semisubmersible being delivered. In contrast, the number of contracted rigs has fallen this week by three to 664. The adjusted global fleet utilization rate is down this week to 80.6 percent.

In the US Gulf of Mexico, the mobile offshore drilling unit supply is unchanged at 113, while the contracted rig count has decreased by one to 69 units. As a result of this change, the fleet utilization rate for the region has decreased to 61.1 percent. In South America, both the offshore drilling rig supply and contracted count are up one from last week. With 112 out of 139 units under contract, the regional fleet utilization rate has risen to 80.6 percent.

In the Europe/Mediterranean Sea region, both the offshore rig supply and the contracted count remain unchanged for another week. With 107 out of 118 mobile offshore drilling units under contract, the fleet utilization rate stands at 90.7 percent. Offshore West Africa, the supply of offshore drilling rigs is unchanged at 72 units. However, the contracted count has fallen by one to 59, yielding a lower fleet utilization rate of 81.9 percent.

Within the Middle East offshore market, both the supply and contracted rig counts are unchanged this week. With 99 out of 121 mobile offshore drilling units under contract, the regional fleet utilization rate is holding steady at 81.8 percent. In the Asia/Australia region, the offshore rig supply has increased by one to 155, while the contracted rig count has decreased by one to 126. These changes have resulted in a lower fleet utilization rate for the region of 81.3 percent.
