Newbuild rig deliveries continue to add to fleet

Two new jackup deliveries have increased the worldwide supply of mobile offshore drilling units to 852. In addition, the contracted rig count has risen by four from last week to 726. The effect of these changes on the fleet utilization rate is an increase to 85.2 percent.

For another week, the US Gulf of Mexico rig count is unchanged. With a supply of 110 and a contracted count of 79, the regional fleet utilization rate continues at 71.8 percent. Offshore South America, the drilling rig supply and contracted counts have each fallen by one. With 107 out of 134 units under contract, the regional fleet utilization rate has fallen slightly to 79.9 percent.

In European waters and the Mediterranean Sea, the drilling rig supply stands at 120, and the contracted count remains at 113. The region’s fleet utilization rate is holding steady at 94.2 percent. Off West Africa, the mobile offshore drilling unit supply has risen by one to 69, while the contracted count has also increased by one to 64. As a result of these changes, the new fleet utilization rate is 92.8 percent.

Similarly, the Middle East has also seen an increase of one unit from last week in both its supply and contracted rig count. With 119 out of 139 units under contract, the fleet utilization rate has risen slightly to 85.6 percent. In Asian/Australian waters, the drilling rig supply has grown by one to 152, while the contracted rig count has increased by three, resulting in a higher fleet utilization rate of 84.2 percent.
