IHS Petrodata Weekly Rig Count

This week the worldwide supply of mobile offshore drilling units remains at 824 units, while the contracted rig count has fallen by three to 658 units. As a result of this change, the global fleet utilization rate has decreased to 79.9 percent.

In the US Gulf of Mexico, both the offshore drilling rig supply and the contracted count are unchanged from last week. With 69 out of 113 units under contract, the fleet utilization rate for the region is holding steady at 61.1 percent. In South America, the offshore rig supply and contracted count are also unchanged this week. With a supply of 139 and a contracted count of 112, the regional fleet utilization rate remains at 80.6 percent.

Within the European/Mediterranean Sea market, the supply of mobile offshore drilling units rose by one to 119, and the contracted rig count also grew by one to 106. The adjusted fleet utilization rate is now 89.1 percent. In West Africa, the offshore rig supply is down one from last week, while the contracted count is down by three. With 56 out of 71 units under contract, the regional fleet utilization rate has decreased to 78.9 percent.

In the Middle East, the offshore drilling rig supply is unchanged this week at 121 units. On the other hand, the contracted rig count has grown by one to 99, resulting in a new fleet utilization rate of 81.8 percent. In Asian/Australian waters, both the supply and contracted rig count have decreased by one this week. With a supply of 153 and a contracted rig count of 124, the fleet utilization rate for the region now stands at 81.0 percent.
