Standard Modifier Dictionary (SMD)

The IHS SMD is the only data dictionary available today that has been created exclusively for maintenance, repair and operations (MRO). Thousands of companies use this proven cataloging methodology daily to ensure that their MRO item descriptions are consistent and complete.

MRO catalogs require a specialized nomenclature to ensure that naming protocols are consistent enterprise wide. Generic data dictionaries and other taxonomies fail to recognize the unique nature of MRO. In addition, the SMD is compatible with upper-level classification schemas such as UNSPSC and eCl@ss.
