IHS Applicability Review Tool (ART)

The ART tool is a web-based software application tailored to help you learn which Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) regulations for a facility apply in the country where your company has operations.

  • Knowing which regulations apply in which country for operation sites can reduce the business risk of not knowing what regulations apply to your global operations, whether it is manufacturing, warehousing, laboratories or any other operations.

The ART tool is pre-populated with easy-to-understand, conditions-based applicability screening questions for national, regional, provincial, and state legal requirements. ART also contains a clearly written summary of the actual law or regulation, a guide note that provides official definitions, and a hyperlink to the actual regulation.

The system is simple - the user answers a series of questions to identify the applicable requirements at the user's specified facility and an Applicable Requirements Register is generated - a requirement of any successful EHS Management System.

    The benefits are:

    • Reduced Liability
    • Mitigation of Risks
    • Increased Efficiency
    • Cost Savings throughout an organization.
  • The Applicability Review process begins with the user registering basic information into the system, such as the country and, if applicable, the region within a country, and the type of operation (e.g., a single site or multiple sites).

The system allows the user to identify review team members and authorized users for this particular review and concludes the registration by establishing the organizational hierarchy (e.g., group, division, facility, and asset).

Once the registration is complete, the next phase is for the review owner to determine the responsible people who will help in the applicability review (typically area managers). To do this, the review owner identifies the activities and products and services that are present at the site. Once this is done the review owner then names the responsible person to represent that activity, product or service during the review.

  • This powerful yet simple application is populated with regulatory content from more than 65 countries and covers a wide range of laws and regulations, such as:

    • Above and Below Ground Tank Management
    • Air Quality
    • Asbestos
    • Chemical Management
    • Community Noise
    • Flora and Fauna
    • General Environmental Requirements
    • Incident Prevention and Response (including Fire Safety)
    • Marine
    • Occupational Health
    • Process Safety
    • Safety
    • Security
    • Transport of Dangerous Goods
    • Waste
    • Water Applicability Review
  • Who Uses ART?
ART users include anyone that needs to know what EHS regulations or global compliance, ethics, or risk management issues exist for a specific country.
  • Whether through subscription or individual document purchase, you have access to critical standards and information from a single source.

    Online Subscription
Subscribers with online access to technical documents through the Occupational Health & Safety Information Service are provided secure online access to search, view, bookmark, track, and print documents, scanning, and image standards in compliance with license agreements. Online documents are updated daily. Multiple users can share a single license. A subscription provides customers with access to more than 60,000 documents.
