Ministry of Defense UK (MOD UK)

The Ministry of Defense UK (MOD UK) manages, develops, implements and disseminates standards information and projects both nationally and internationally. Users of MOD UK standards include suppliers, manufacturers, researchers, consultants and engineers from a variety of defense and civil industries including aviation, materials, procurement and quality.

It is UK government policy to encourage the use of standards that are used worldwide whenever possible However, when no suitable national or international standard exists that fits a specific need, MOD UK will create a new standard.

MOD UK defense standards normally describe the requirements for equipment, component or material and may include practices, procedures and processes. In general, standards enable government to implement regulations, fine-tune internal procedures and eliminate costs.

The MOD UK collection is divided into four areas:

• Defense contracts and quality assurance documents 
• Defense specifications 
• Defense standards
