This supplementary report includes evaluations of various ethylene processes for making vinyl acetate-vapor phase using ethylene and acetic acid feed; vapor phase using ethylene feed and acetic acid formed in process; vapor phase using ethylene feed and acetic acid formed in process from acetaldehyde feed; liquid phase, single-stage; and liquid phase, two-stage.
The acetylene process as evaluated in PEP Report No. 15 is believed still to be representative; hence, the cost features given in that report for the acetylene process are used here, with appropriate changes in bases. In addition, a new ethane process is evaluated in a speculative way.
The report is expanded to include vinyl esters other than vinyl acetate. Besides a general description and process review, a vapor phase acetylene process for vinyl propionate and a liquid phase acetylene process for the vinyl ester of Versatic acid are evaluated briefly.
