Sulfur Dioxide Removal From Flue Gases

The economic analyses in previous PEP reports are updated and compared with those of newer technologies under development. This report summarizes the status of SO2 emissions and government regulations in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan, with details of public utility operations in the United States. The status of commercial and developing technology for flue gas desulfurization is surveyed, and economics are estimated for a modern wet limestone process, a lime spray drying process (both commercial), and a lime spray duct treatment process for retrofits (under development).
