The production of p-xylene by dehydrocyclization of non-aromatics gives a C8 fraction containing a high percentage of p-xylene. The most encouraging result appears to be from diisobutylene but we have no information on whether the initial conversion and selectivity can be maintained. If a 70% selectivity to p-xylene and a high concentration of p-xylene in the C8 aromatics can be obtained at a good conversion, this process might be competitive with the production of p-xylene from a C8 aromatics mixture.
