Several Bayer-Degussa patents advocate a process for making propylene oxide by epoxidation of propylene with perpropionic acid, which is made from concentrated hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution and propionic acid. Our evaluation shows that this process may be useful in small scale production, but in large scale production it is not competitive with current commercial processes.
