Polyethylene, High Density, Gas Phase Process

Standard Oil Company (Indiana) has developed a new gas phase polymerization process for ethylene polymerization. The basis for the process is a horizontal, cylindrical, stirred vessel with wide flexibility as to control of product properties.

Our evaluation of a process built around this reactor shows favorable economics, comparing very well with those for the Union Carbide process which uses a vertical fluidized bed, gas phase reactor.
