Hydroquinone Processes

There are a number of possible process routes for the manufacture of hydroquinone (p-dihydroxybenzene). This review discusses the chemistry of four potential routes, and provides rough estimates of economics. The four routes presented are:

  • Dihydrobenzenes from phenol and hydrogen peroxide
  • Hydorquinone from p-isopropenylphenol and hydrogen peroxide
  • Hydroquinone from p-nitrosophenol
  • Hyudroquinone from nitrobenzene
