A patent assigned to Ruhrchemie AG covers an improved catalyst composition (alkaline iron oxide with transition metal oxide promoters). This catalyst with optimum reaction conditions--temperature, space velocity, and CO/H2 ratio--gives mainly C1 to C4 hydrocarbons, with a con-version of about 12% and a selectivity to ethylene of 44%.
