PEP Review 94-2-1
A Nontower Process for High Bulk Density Detergent Powders
Published: October 1995
Natural detergent alcohols (NDA) are produced by esterification of fatty acids with methanol and hydrogenation of the resulting methyl esters to alcohols. In this review, we examine the capital requirement and production costs for an NDA process developed by Davy Process Technology using a solid catalyst for esterifying the fatty acids, hydrogenating the esters in the vapor phase, and recovering the fatty alcohols with a transesterification method.
