Applications and Opportunities in Ceramic Coatings

Ceramic coatings for engineered components help improve surface resistance to the working environment. Because of this improvement, coatings help to extend the operating life and the range of operating conditions for which a material or component is suitable. This short study focuses mainly on metallic substrates and ceramic coatings in applications that use thermal spray and vapor deposition processes. It describes various types of coatings and then discusses coating techniques, applications, markets, and manufacturers for three kinds of coatings using techniques of: chemical vapor deposition(CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), and thermal spray. Ceramic coatings offer an opportunity for chemical companies as both users and suppliers of materials.
