Published: December 1986
This study examines the legislation, technology, and economics of hazardous waste treatment and disposal in the chemical industry. The discussion on legislation summarizes environmental laws in the United States, West Germany, and Japan. The emphasis is on laws that regulate the management and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
The discussion on technology is subdivided into commercial and near commercial processes (16), and emerging processes (26). SRI developed investment and operating cost estimates for three incineration processes, one biotreatment process, and one wet air oxidation process. Additionally, the last section of the report summarizes the current prices for transportation, treatment, and disposal of hazardous waste at an off-site commercial facility.
