Global Unique Well Identifier Service (GUWI)

The IHS Global Unique Well Identity Service (GUWI) database provides industry-standardized well identity information for wells outside North America. Developed in collaboration with Energistics, IHS's GUWI is an invaluable reference point for researching and resolving conflicting wells.

• Enables you to match the index against proprietary well files to minimize ongoing integration issues

Well Registration Service

• Provides an IHS GUWI to each new wellbore record.  
• Register both pre- and post-spud wellbore requests. 
• Registration requests are only accepted from the well operator, the government regulatory body, or the National Oil Company (Equity Partner or Government Regulatory body affiliate). 

How to Register

• Download the appropriate file, provide the requested well details, and send an email. 
• The registration service is provided at no charge 
• Minimum required attributes for pre-spud registration: 
  • Well name and number 
  • Operator 
  • Country 
  • Contract/Block 
  • Simple Well classification (exploration or development)

Public Domain Option

• Release well data into the Public Domain through the Public Well Index (PWI) using a separate PWI Consent Form. 
• Place up to 120 registered wellbores into the PWI each calendar quarter, without incurring a charge. 
• PWI registrations in excess of 120 wellbores incur a fee of US $50 per well, with a minimum charge of US $500 per calendar quarter.
• Access to the PWI is unrestricted; to receive a copy of this data please complete the appropriate form and send an email.

Well Matching Service

• Provides the IHS GUWI for your existing wellbore records.
• On request, IHS will match and return wellbore data with the appropriate GUWI.
• To match wells with a GUWI, download the appropriate file, provide the requested well details, and send an email. 
• Current IHS customers 
  • Receive this well matching service at no charge when submitting single requests of less than 250 wells.
  • IHS customers wishing to requests in excess of 250 wells must email their proposal for scheduling and pricing.
• Non-IHS customers 
  • Receive the well matching service at no charge when submitting up to 90 wellbores per calendar quarter.
  • A fee of US$25 per matched well, with a minimum charge of US$500 per calendar quarter, is levied against requests exceeding 90 wellbores.
  • Non-IHS customers wishing to submit large numbers of wells in excess of 250 must email their proposal for scheduling and pricing.

The Master Well Index

• This IHS proprietary dataset contains the GUWI and associated meta-data for US, Canadian and International wells.
• For a nominal fee it can be provided to current IHS customers for the geographic areas covered by their data subscription on request from their Account Manager.

Master Well Index
The Master Well Index contains two components:

• The Global Unique Well Identifier 
• A supporting set of Common Attributes

Global Unique Well Identifier (GUWI)

• Provides the GUWI for each initial wellbore and each re-completion from the original well bore (multiple horizontal wells, sidetracks, or deepening) 
• Includes alternate identifiers and well names assigned over time to track changes
