IHS Petrodata Weekly Rig Count

This week the number of mobile offshore drilling units in the world remains at 827, while the number of contracted rigs has increased by two to 672. As a result of this change, the new global fleet utilization rate is 81.3 percent.

In the US Gulf of Mexico market, both the offshore drilling rig supply and contracted count have risen by one from last week. With 74 out of 114 rigs under contract, the fleet utilization rate for the region has risen to 64.9 percent. Offshore South America, the drilling rig supply and contracted count have both decreased by two units. With a supply of 139 and a contracted count of 112, the regional fleet utilization rate is now 80.6 percent.

For another week the Europe/Mediterranean Sea offshore rig market is unchanged. With 108 out of 119 mobile offshore drilling units under contract, the fleet utilization rate stands at 90.8 percent. Offshore West Africa, the offshore drilling rig supply is unchanged at 71 units, while the contracted count has fallen by one to 58, yielding a new fleet utilization rate of 81.7 percent.

Within the Middle East offshore rig market, the supply remains at 123 units. On the other hand, the contracted rig count has grown by one to 104 units, resulting in a new regional fleet utilization rate of 84.6 percent. In Asian and Australian waters, the mobile offshore drilling unit supply has fallen by one, and the contracted rig count has stayed the same as last week. With 120 out of 149 units under contract, the fleet utilization rate for the region has risen to 80.5 percent.
