Strategies for Leaner Europe: Meeting the Challenge of Energy Efficiency

What energy efficiency policies will the European Union implement? How will they affect the demand for gas and power by 2030, and how should I position my company? These are the questions addressed by Strategies for Leaner Europe: Meeting the Challenge of Energy Efficiency.

Completed in 2008, the multiclient study addresses the lesser known costs and potential negative impacts of EU targets to reduce energy usage 20 percent by 2020. The study offers recommendations for building corporate efficiency models that promise longevity in the face of declining energy demand coming out of a new, leaner Europe.

Strategies for Leaner Europe: Meeting the Challenge of Energy Efficiency features our 2008 multiclient study designed to shed light on the hidden costs and unknown impacts of the European Union's energy efficiency targets.   Catherine Robinson, IHS CERA Director of Global Gas, is an expert in the European gas markets, regularly contributing to IHS CERA advisory service research. She has also worked on numerous tailored consulting assignments for clients, including international oil companies and European utilities. Ms. Robinson specializes in hedging and risk management and has expertise in market and credit risk management for trading organizations. Before joining IHS CERA, Ms. Robinson worked for Centrica, most recently as Gas Hedging Strategy manager. She also worked in Centrica’s risk management department, looking at market and credit risk in the United Kingdom, and for Centrica’s overseas businesses. Prior to Centrica, Ms. Robinson worked for HSBC’s Capital Market’s division. She is the author of numerous IHS CERA reports, including analyses of the future of oil indexation in Europe, the role of gas in the power generation sector, and short- and long-term energy market fundamentals. She was a primary contributor to the IHS CERA Multiclient Study, Strategies for a Leaner Europe: Meeting the Energy Efficiency Challenge.

  Federico Ferrario, IHS CERA Associate Director, European Gas and Power, specializes in European policies for emissions reduction and energy efficiency, as well as long-term power supply projections. His expertise includes quantitative analysis of the supply and demand balance of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), as well as the assessment of the impacts of environmental legislation on the European power business. He is author of several research and analyses projects including assessing the implications of the EU ETS and the European Union’s 2020 climate and energy targets on the power sector. Mr. Ferrario has been responsible for the power sector analysis and modeling in the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Strategies for a Leaner Europe, evaluating the extent and consequences of electricity-saving potentials in end uses, and The Art of Foresight with the development of energy scenarios for the European countries. He regularly contributes to the European Power Watch as well as other research reports, Roundtables, and consulting projects. Mr. Ferrario holds a BA from Bocconi University, Milan, and an MSc from Imperial College, London.

  Roberto Futuro, Director, Syndicated Research, is responsible for the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies. In this role he advises IHS CERA on the creation, launch, and delivery of innovative research solutions. Previously, he managed the IHS CERA business development efforts in Europe and Russia, and was a project manager in the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Securing the Future: Making European Gas Interdependence Work. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Futuro was a consultant with the Monitor Group in New York where he participated in several corporate strategy projects in the infrastructure, public policy, and healthcare sectors. He also worked at the World Bank's Private Participation in Infrastructure Group where he tracked private investment in emerging markets. Through his career Mr. Futuro has lived and worked in four continents. He holds a MS in Foreign Service and a certificate in International Business Diplomacy from Georgetown University.
