High Resolution Aeromagnetic (UK)
IHS has over 70,000 km2 of High Resolution Aeromagnetic (HiRAM) data available in the UK, covering areas such as Moray Firth, North Channel and English Channel. HRAM allows the definition of fault networks and sedimentary characteristics (such as Greensand subcrop) on a regional scale, providing an excellent framework to incorporate seismic interpretation.

High Resolution Aeromagnetic Data (HiRAM) was acquired using state of the art high resolution instruments recording from a bird (to reduce aircraft magnetic signature interference) flown in closely spaced flight lines (250-500m). HiRAM is as different from conventional magnetic surveys as 3D seismic is from 2D and is the very best data available. It is a cost effective means of integrating your block focussed seismic into the regional picture as well as an important constraint on seismic model interpretations.
HiRAM data allows the identification of many geological features on a regional scale, including:
- Normal faults offsetting a formation
- Entire fault networks as HiRAM images the basement and entire sedimentary section
- Buried river channels and old river systems
- Strike-slips faults difficult to view on seismic due to the lack of vertical displacement
