NSF International
NSF International publishes standards that establish safety standards for food, water, indoor air and the environment.

Founded in 1944, NSF International, formerly known as the National Sanitation Foundation, is a non-profit organization that publishes standards for risk management related to public health and safety. The NSF standards apply to food, water, indoor air and environmental safety and are voluntary guidelines used by industry and regulatory agencies internationally.
The organization draws upon its staff of engineers, chemists, toxicologists and environmental professionals when developing standards.
The topics covered by the NSF collection of standards are largely related to the food and beverage industry. They address food handling, hygiene and sanitization, packaging, drinking water treatment and dietary supplements.
NSF standards are used by those who design, install, use and maintain facilities for food and beverage preparation, particularly in institutional environments.
Included in the collection are a variety of topics related to public health and safety including standards for:
- Dispensing freezers
- Individual aerobic wastewater treatment plants
- Wastewater recycle/reuse and water conservation devices
- Class II (laminar flow) biohazard cabinetry
- Evaluation of special processes, components or devices used in treating wastewater
