Tiltrotor technology has a history that can be traced back to Bell Helicopter's XV-3, and military interest in the design is poised to last well beyond the current generation of Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey aircraft operating today.
This webinar will review the history of the tiltrotor, discuss its current performance today as embodied in the V-22, and explore the potential for future development. Prospects have dimmed somewhat with the US Air Force's decision to cancel funding for the Common Vertical Lift Support Platform (CVLSP), but tiltrotor technology can still play a role in the US Army's Future Vertical Lift (FVL) requirement (formerly known as Joint MultiRole [JMR]). This webinar will seek to explain the attractive traits of tiltrotor technology that have kept funding and interest in it alive, and also explore the controversy surrounding fatal accidents in its past and its rocky development history.
