China's re-emergence as a superpower has already had a major effect on the geo-political situation across Asia, forcing neighbours and rivals to re-evaluate their foreign and defence policies. In a seminar focusing on all three services, IHS Jane's experts examine the scope and capabilities of China's emerging military platforms and systems: capabilities that reflect Beijing's intention to have armed forces that support the foreign policy befitting great power status.

Robert Hewson has been a military journalist and analyst for nearly 20 years, specialising in aerospace and systems technology. He took over the editor's chair at Jane's Air-Launched Weapons in 2001. Prior to that, he was the Editor of the renowned World Air Power Journal, before establishing his own consultancy firm for the aerospace industry. He has worked on a number of open-source and restricted projects, on behalf of leading defence concerns and international armed forces. He is a regular contributor to other Jane's titles and has written widely on aviation, defence and industry topics — land, sea and air — in several languages. Robert has made a wide range of TV and radio appearances, in the UK and around the world.
He has substantial experience of military aviation operations on land and at sea, including launches from US Navy carriers. He has flown in a wide range of service aircraft from combat helicopters to front-line fast jets. In 2009 Robert received the Royal Aeronautical Society Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for a Jane’s Defence Weekly news analysis piece that queried the costs of Norway’s proposed F-35 Joint Strike Fighter purchase. In 2010 he won the prize for the second year running, this time for another JDW news story on Pakistan’s military UAV operations. He has been shortlisted for an award every year since 2001.

Jon Rosamond has edited Jane's Navy International for the past two-and-a-half years, during which he has covered naval operations and exercises, conferences, industry exhibitions and briefings in Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, the US and the Persian Gulf, as well as the UK, and led a small team that has reported from places as far afield as Sri Lanka and Japan. From December 2003 to April 2007, Jon was defence correspondent on the Portsmouth News (one of only two regional newspapers in the UK with such a post), writing primarily about the Royal Navy but also Army units on ops/exercises in Germany and Iraq.
Prior to that he worked as a journalist in the southwest of England, mainly as a health correspondent covering the National Health Service, with a short stint on the Daily Mail in London. Jon was also a Territorial Army reservist, spending 13 years as a cavalryman in the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, initially in a light reconnaissance unit and subsequently in the armour replacement (tank crew) role.

During a 32-year career in the Royal Navy, Stephen Saunders travelled extensively and worked with many different navies. A surface-ship officer and anti-submarine warfare specialist, he served in most classes of warship from Mine Countermeasures vessels to Aircraft Carriers.
He commanded the frigate HMS SIRIUS and, as Captain 1st Frigate Squadron, HMS COVENTRY; in this role he also commanded the Royal Navy's Armilla Patrol when deployed to the Gulf. His broad staff experience comprised attachment to the NATO staff of Commander US 6th Fleet and several tours in the Ministry of Defence, London. Appointments in Naval Operational Requirements and Defence Concepts led to his final job as Director Force Development within the Defence Policy Division. He graduated form the National Defence College, Latimer, in 1982 and the Royal College of Defence Studies in 1994. Since leaving the Royal Navy in 1998, he has worked in the shipbuilding industry and as a defence consultant.

Christopher F Foss is the Editor of Jane's Armour and Artillery and Co-Editor of Jane's Armour and Artillery Upgrades, Jane's Land-Based Air Defence and Jane's Military Vehicles and Logistics; he is also the Land Consultant for Jane's Defence Weekly and Jane's International Defence Review.
Christopher began his association with Jane's as early as 1970, when he began writing for Jane's Weapon Systems. Since 1979 he has acted as a self-employed contractor with the company and with a number of other organisations and companies throughout the world. His achievements have included conceiving and editing Jane's Defence Review, the first magazine ever produced by IHS Jane's, and proposing and launching Jane's Missiles and Rockets.
He has written numerous books relating to armoured vehicles and weapons systems both for Jane's and for other publishers. He has also lectured in a number of countries and has chaired many conferences.
