We’ll explain the system and organizational steps necessary to measure your performance in order to achieve your operational goals.

The speaker will share how having the right tools and processes enabled them to promote continuous improvement through identification of best practices and encouraging lessons learned.

    Recent analytics work with data from the IHS Operational Risk solution has allowed Shell’s HSSE Performance Team to provide stakeholders with leading and lagging HSE indicators, which empower them to identify areas of concern and respond to potential hazards, resulting in incident prevention. The presentation will provide an overview of visualizations that have enabled Shell’s HSSE Team to make quantum leaps in the way they review and react to incident data including a novel approach to managing Process Safety Events.

    IHS Operational Excellence Forum Discussion
    For the past several years, a group of global energy companies, including nearly all of the super majors, has been working on a research initiative with a common mission to find an actionable leading indicator index to drive safety and overall sustainability performance. The session will provide an overview of the analytical process that produced these results and will outline alternatives for applying these insights on leadership performance dashboards.

  Karen Jones has been with Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. (TPRI) for the past 20 years with over 25 years total experience in HSE. Karen has responsibility for a variety of programs at the corporate office, including the management of the Crisis Management Business Continuity program, the industrial hygiene and product safety programs, and serving as the Responsible Care Coordinator for the company. In 2010, she became the "official" HSSE / ITIS Department Liaison, and works with HSSE business owners and IS staff on software application integration and implementation. To some degree or another, Karen has been involved with the HSE performance data gathering, analysis, and reporting for the company for over 15 years, which is how she was first introduced to the IHS EHS&S solutions. She has been a part of the company Global IMPACT Team since mid-2002 when the software "went global", and as the US Business Team member has had the responsibility for coordinating eight version upgrades and improvements to the global instance of IHS EHS&S solutions during that time.

  John Mercadante has over 16 years of experience in designing and optimizing technologies to drive business performance. John brings a wealth of expertise in diverse technologies, from client server to system integration and e-commerce applications across multiple industries including healthcare, telecommunications and energy. He has previously headed the product management team at System Management Systems and was responsible for working with customers to help them achieve the highest value of Syntex products. John joined IHS when Syntex was acquired by IHS in 2010. At IHS, John is responsible for creating and driving the execution of the roadmap for the Operational Risk solution as part of the Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability team.
