      From 1975 to 1980 Andreas studied Chemistry at the University of Konstanz, Germany and graduated in 1983 with Ph.D. in Metal Organic Chemistry.

      In 1984 Andreas joined Hoechst AG, Frankfurt, working in the Ziegler-Natta-Catalyst R & D Group.

      In 1990 Andreas moved to the Hoechst Metallocene Technology Group, where he was engaged in the field of metallocene catalyst and polymerization technology as well as metallocene polypropylene product development on lab, pilot and commercial scale. In 1995 he received the Hoechst Research Award for developments in the Metallocene area.

      From 1997 until March 2001 Andreas was with Targor GmbH, which became Basell in 2000. He was responsible for the implementation of the metallocene technology into commercial scale bulk polymerization processes. He then moved to the Injection Molding Group and had responsibility for the development of metallocene polymers and Ziegler-Natta random co-polymers.

      In April 2001 Andreas joined Trespaphan GmbH, where he had worldwide responsibility for raw material qualification and selection and for the development of BOPP barrier film grades.

      In November 2001 Andreas joined Lummus Novolen Technology GmbH and is responsible for the Novolen catalyst and polymer research and development groups.

      Dr Hauck became recently Senior Manager Plastic Additives EMEA for Milliken’s Plastics Additives Business out

      of their regional headquarters based in Gent, Belgium. In this role, Dr Hauck is responsible for product line leadership for Milliken’s plastic additives.

      Hauck graduated 1992 from the University of Giessen, Germany as an organic Chemist (Diploma). In his thesis he used multi-dimensional NMR methods for the analysis of organo-Lithium compounds. After studying crystal structures of instable alkaline & alkaline earth metal-organic compounds he received his PhD - in organic chemistry from the University of Frankfurt, Germany back in 1996.

      From 1996 through 1998 he was responsible for the German sales activities of Engelhard’s pearlescent pigments. He joined in 1998 Milliken in Belgium as European Key Account Manager for the Chemical Division. In 2002 he was promoted to Sales Manager Plastic Additives Europe and Middle East leading product lines Millad® Clarifiers and Hyperform® Nucleators. Late 2007 he assumed additional responsibility as member of Milliken’s “Global Plastic Additives Strategic Planning Group”.

      Dr. Hauck has published several scientific reports.

      Dr. Trevor Hutley is a global polymer industry specialist, who joined the executive management of Sipchem in 2009 as the General Manager of Product & Technology Development.

      He has 35 years of progressive technical, professional, consulting and management experience in the global polymer industry, with 12 companies and organizations, including Dunlop, DuPont, Lotus Engineering, and The Royal Commission; based in Switzerland, the UK, Hong Kong and The Middle East.

      Dr Trevor has a first class degree in polymer science and technology, a doctorate in polymer engineering and an MBA summa cum laude in finance and marketing.

      He is a Chartered Chemist, a Member of The Royal Society of Chemistry, and The Institute of Materials; a Senior member of the Society of Plastics Engineers. Dr Hutley is a creative, insightful, analytical, penetrating, inquisitive, strategic and lateral thinker; and a power-user of Apple computers.

      Hirahata Wataru is theme leader in Petrochemicals Research for Catalyst Design Group. Prior to joining Catalyst Design Group, he woked for Sumitomo Chemical, (Japan) working in the area of single site catalysts for olefin polymerization.

      He was also a visiting scientist with Cornell University (US) where he researched catalysts for precise controlled polymerization. In 2007 he came back to Sumitomo Chemical as a research associate and worked in development of Ziegler – Natta catalysts technology for polymerization of ethylene and propylene.

      Mr. Wataru holds a Master's degree in molecular chemical engineering from Hokkaido University.

      Remko Koster was born in Groningen, the Netherlands in 1972.

      After finishing his masters degree in Chemistry at the RUL University of Leiden, he obtained his PhD at the UvA University of Amsterdam in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

      In 2000 Remko joined DSM as research scientist for caprolactam, but soon moved on to become R&D project manager for the cracker co-products. In 2002 Remko joined SABIC as a result of the acquisition of DSM petrochemicals by SABIC.

      In the 9 years Remko worked for SABIC, he has had many different responsibilities in the commercial and business intelligence departments, e.g. as European sales manager for butadiene & heavy aromatics, benzene & derivatives and, immediately prior to joining IHS in February 2011, as global polypropylene market intelligence manager. At IHS Remko is responsible for polyolefins services in Europe and Africa.

    • Alasdair Nisbet, Director, Natrium Capital

      Alasdair Nisbet is one of the leading M&A advisors to the chemical industry. He recently founded Natrium Capital with two partners. He has worked with many of the largest global chemical and oil companies including, BASF, Dow Chemicals, Rohm & Haas (and the Haas Family), PPG, Rockwood, Tata Chemicals, Ineos, Chemtura, Shell and BP. Previously he headed up the Global Chemical M&A business for Lazard and Wasserstein Perella and before that was a ranked equity analyst providing research on companies in Europe and Asia. He has a Chemistry degree from Oxford University.

      John Oskam is the R&D Director for Polypropylene Licensing and Catalyst in the Performance Plastics Division of Dow.

      John started his career in Union Carbide at the Bound Brook Technical Center in 1993, after receiving his M.Sc. degree from Steven’s Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. degree in Inorganic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. John worked on the development of novel catalysts for UNIPOLTM Polyethylene, first as part of Union Carbide and then as part of Univation Technologies. He led the development and commercialization of PRODIGYTM BMC-200 Technology, the first bimodal HDPE pipe resin produced in a single reactor.

      In Sept 2011, John joined Dow as R&D Director for the Licensing and Catalyst Groups.

      Matthew’s current role in IHS Chemical as director for Olefins and Derivatives in Europe, the Middle East and Africa follows several years in a variety of roles within CMAI across a broad range of product areas. As the key resource within CMAI for understanding and insight into the olefins sector of the petrochemical industry, for these key regions, he works closely across the industry, bringing support and guidance throughout the petrochemical chain. Current specific responsibilities include the European/Middle East Report Olefins and primary input and support for the World Light Olefins Analysis.

      Previously with CMAI, Matthew has worked in both olefins and aromatics consulting in Europe, the Middle East and Africa with key responsibilities in olefins, but also work in aromatics markets. His most recent role had a primary focus on butadiene and elastomers, where he remains a globally recognized industry speaker and expert. These responsibilities have required input to the Global Outlook - Feedstocks, Elastomers Report, European Market Report Aromatics, Aromatics Market Report and taking the lead role in analyzing olefin and derivative markets for CMAI in support of the CMAI World Analysis. Expertise in these fields has also led to involvement, as a business and strategic consultant, in several large scale projects in these fields.

      Michele Paganini is Head of Global Product Management for Antioxidants and Process Stabilizers in the Global Strategic Management Group at BASF - Plastic Additives, located in Switzerland.

      Michele obtained his degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Genoa, Italy.

      In 1996 he joined the lube-oil additive - PARAMINS division of Exxon Chemical (later Infineum) at Vado Ligure (Savona) in Italy, covering several roles in engineering, maintenance and project management.

      In 2001 he joined Ciba Specialty Chemicals at Mortara (Pavia) in Italy, being responsible for engineering and maintenance department.

      In 2002 he moved to Pontecchio Marconi (Bologna) in Italy, with responsibility for direct and indirect purchasing, production planning and operations related to raw materials and finished products.

      In 2006 he moved to Singapore as part of the Jurong Island new AO production site project team, with responsibility for whole project sourcing activities and production site integrated logistics.

      In 2008 he joined Ciba Basel in Switzerland as Global Product Management for Antioxidants and Process Stabilizers. In 2009 he joined BASF Plastic Additives Switzerland, with same position.

      In January 2011, Mark joined Chemical Market Associates (CMAI) and is currently the Managing Director for CMAI’s business interests in Renewables and Life Sciences. Mark is based on London, responsible for all Business Advisory (single client) engagements in the sector as well as multiclient programs under development.

      Mark has over 16 years of experience in Consulting across many sectors covering chemicals, energy and renewables. Prior to joining CMAI, Mark was Executive Consultant and Technology Director of Nexant’s Energy and Chemicals Consulting Division. (Nexant acquired Chem Systems in 2001 from IBM), based in London.

      Prior to joining Chem Systems, Mark worked for BP as a technologist working across R&D, engineering and various business groups to develop and commercialize new and innovative chemical processes ranging from commodities through to fine and performance chemicals.

      For the last five years Mark developed in Nexant an extensive capability in the renewables sector focused on chemicals and biofuels. Part of this time was spent on secondment to Novozymes A/S, the world-leading enzymes producer as Bio-business Development Director and Advisor, based in Copenhagen to support business strategy development and identify key products and processes for Novozymes A/S commercialization effort.

He now works in INEOS Technologies and is responsible for the Polyolefin Catalyst Business for INEOS, a Global Business supplying Catalyst to the Polyethylene and Polypropylene process technology market.

He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Industrial Chemistry at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany).

      Marc Narmon, Chemical Engineer from the Flemish University in Brussels, started his career in 1984 at PetroFina SA as Technical Service Engineer for thermoplastic elastomers. In subsequent years, he held various positions in PetroFina’s, Atofina’s and Total’s polyolefin activities. Since 2008 he is in charge of the Polyolefin Licensing business. Recently styrene and polystyrene technologies were added to his portfolio in the newly formed Polymers Division of Total’s Refining and Chemical branch.

      Total is an important player in the Polyolefin world scene with a PE+PP production capacity of 5 million tons. Total is very active in developing new catalysts, products and applications. A good illustration of this is the combination of Total’s Advanced Dual Loop process and Chromium, Ziegler-Natta and Metallocene proprietary technology resulting in a wide variety of state-of-the-art resins.

      Andrea Borruso, Director of EMEA studies for IHS Chemical, leads the chemical consulting team specializing in the thermoplastic and polymer chain. He is well regarded in the petrochemical industry worldwide and often featured as a polymer expert and a keynote speaker. 

      Mr. Borruso brings 39 years of postgraduate experience in the petrochemical industry, mainly in olefins and polymers. His vast experience in competitive intelligence, market analysis, strategic perspective, market positioning and insight into the polymer industry has proven very useful for the chemical consulting team in tailoring client information worldwide.  

      Mr. Borruso has worked in the petrochemical consulting industry since 1993. Prior to that, he spent 12 years with the Alberta Energy Co. (now Encana) where he was responsible for business development, new ventures and petrochemical acquisitions. Between 1975 and 1980 Borruso was plant operation manager for an LDPE Plant in Italy.

      Mr. Borruso graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Palermo Italy and has conducted research activity as part of the post graduation program with Mobil Oil in Essex, UK. In addition he has taken short courses in marketing strategy at the University of Stanford, California and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Mr. Borruso is licensed Profession Engineer, registered in Alberta Canada since 1981. He is a member of several associations such as SCI (1985) and EPCA (2001).
