  • IHS Automotive Fall Conference - Japan, October 2011

IHS Automotive Fall Conference: Opportunities, Obstacles and Technology Trends

IHS Automotive is hosting the IHS Automotive Fall Conference: Opportunities, Obstacles and Technology Trends in Tokyo, Japan on 6 October 2011

Read Overview in Japanese (PDF)

The global automotive industry has faced an unprecedented period of turbulence as it copes with the impact of the two most significant global crises to hit the industry in the last 50 years—the global financial crisis and the earthquake in Japan. Please join us on 11 October as we present our outlook for the automotive industry. Topics we will cover include:

  • The Global Financial Crisis: The global financial crisis resulted in a radically redefined global automotive industry footprint; developed markets are now experiencing a long U-shaped recovery in automotive demand, while emerging markets continue to surge ahead. What will growth in the industry look like in coming years, which regions are hot spots, and are some now in terminal decline?
  • Earthquake in Japan: The March 2011 earthquake in Japan had an unprecedented influence on the global automotive supply chain. Huge disruptions to production rippled through the industry, resulting in cutbacks well beyond the Japan epicenter. What is the short- and long-term impact of the earthquake on the industry?
  • Automotive Technologies: The rise of alternative technologies has been a feature of the industry's response to the global dislocations of recent years. Investment in hybrid and electric vehicle technology has been intense across developed and developing markets. Will China's advancements leapfrog over current powertrains? Which are the real growth technologies and how big can the market become?
