American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
Standards from the ASCE are created for civil engineering professionals.
-
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Codes and Standards Program develops consensus standards on a variety of topics for the civil engineering profession. The standards committees are grouped by their general subject areas within one of the seven Institutes of ASCE:
- Architectural Engineering Institute
- Construction Institute
- Coasts, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute
- Engineering Mechanics Institute
- Environmental and Water Resources Institute
- Geo-Institute
- Structural Engineering Institute
- Transportation and Development Institute
Civil engineering is the design and maintenance of public works such as roads, bridges, water and energy systems as well as public facilities like ports, railways and airports.
ASCE standards are used by agricultural, civil, design, marine and highway engineers, architects and others in industry and government for specifying quality control and maintenance in the design/ construct area.
The ASCE Standards Collection contains selected active standards and reports on engineering practices covering design and construction of structures and covers many topics such as:
- Seismic analysis of safety-related nuclear
structures - Guideline for structural condition assessment
of existing buildings - Earthquake-actuated automatic gas shutoff
devices - Building code requirements and specifications for masonry structures
