-
The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is a not-for-profit association dedicated to promoting safe ladder use. ALI publishes standards and technical specifications for the safe design, construction, testing, care and use of portable, fixed, rolling, job-made and certain special purpose ladders of various materials. Approved and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), these voluntary standards are developed on a 5-year cycle by the A14 Committee and Subcommittees of industry experts.
ASC - A14 Committee and Subcommittees
The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) A14 assumes the responsibility for developing these standards, which are used by manufacturers, contractors, governmental agencies and in the legal profession. The A14 Committee is comprised of representatives from four areas: users, fabrication and related, general interest and non-voting members, with ANSI guidelines dictating balance among the three voting categories. The ANSI accreditation ensures that new and revised ALI standards meet the requirements for openness, balance, consensus and due process. The Committee does not evaluate or accredit specific ladders, nor the findings, certifications and protocols used by testing laboratories for specific ladders. In addition to the development and dissemination of safety standards for the ladder industry, ALI is also dedicated to the education of the public on the proper selection, care and safe use of ladders and representing the interests of its members.
