The cold spell of February 2012 stressed power systems throughout Central Western Europe, but the tepid economic growth anticipated for this year will likely mean moderate power demand growth and sufficient reserve margins through to 2017. In IHS CERA’s outlook, clean spark spreads remain negative until 2017 under competitive pressures from coal.
