We would like to invite you to join us for 2012 Energy: The Road Ahead. This exclusive event will bring together a selection of experts to address and debate some of the critical questions for the Energy industry.
Energy, The Road Ahead: Is $100/bbl here to stay and what does it mean?
Despite economic uncertainty oil prices remain strong. Is this a sign that the recovery is on? Or is this the first step towards a new bust? Understanding the relationship between the global economy, upstream developments and oil price is critical to making the right investment decisions.

David Finlayson is managing director of the Global Business Development team in Consulting Resources at IHS CERA. To this role he brings 37 years of technical, operational and management experience in upstream oil and gas — 22 of which were with major oil companies, followed by 15 years of consulting experience.
Currently, David assists clients in a number of areas including strategic planning, exploration management, new entry strategies, competitive analysis, asset management, business development and international expansion, to name a few.
Prior to joining IHS in March 2008, he was a director of JFA International, which was acquired by IHS. In that capacity, he was responsible for the development and commercialization of the intellectual property embodied in Global Window, now an IHS flagship product supporting a wide range of internationally diverse clients in upstream new ventures, business development and strategic planning.
Before JFA, Finlayson held various technical, exploration and asset management roles with Texaco, BP (and predecessor companies BNOC and Britoil) while living in the US, Norway, Malaysia, UK and Australia.
David holds a bachelor’s of science degree in physics with honours from the University of Glasgow, and a master’s degree in geophysics from Imperial College of London. He also completed the International Executive Development Program at INSEAD, Paris. He is a lay member of the Governing Council of Brunel University, UK.
Hank Chambers is Director of Product Management Geological Software at IHS Energy Technologies where he is responsible for working with customers to translate their geoscience requirements into commercial applications.
He has over 20 years of expertise in directing the creation of geophysical and geological interpretation products and steering the execution of marketing and business development programs. His career is built on a strong geo-technical background with extensive experience in technology design, marketing and business development with global companies ranging in size from small business startups to mature Fortune 500 organizations.
Chambers joined IHS through the acquisition of Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT). Before SMT, Hank was at Austin GeoModeling where he was chief geologist and vice president of marketing. Prior to AGM he worked at Landmark Graphics as director of product management responsible for Landmark’s flagship and next generation geological and geophysical software.
Hank holds a bachelor’s of science degree in geology from Macalester College and a master’s degree in geology from the University of Wyoming.
Peter M. Jackson, IHS CERA Head of Research – Exploration, Production, Technology and Cost, is a widely respected authority on oil and gas production and upstream development. He combines expertise with practical experience in some of the world’s most important production areas. At IHS CERA he is responsible for global oil and gas capacity outlooks. A major component of his research is examining current trends and challenges in production capacity and reserves distribution as well as forecasting which areas will become a focus for future exploration and production (E&P) industry investment. He was author of IHS CERA 2009 Special Report The Future of Global Oil Supply: Understanding the Building Blocks. Recent research topics tackled by the IHS CERA Supply Team include the role of exploration in supply growth, the potential for resource growth in Indonesia, and understanding the drivers of upstream success in deep water. He has also played a major role in developing the new IHS CERA E&P Trends Forum and is Project Director for the new IHS CERA Multiclient Study Breaking with Convention: Prospects for European Unconventional Gas. Dr. Jackson has 22 years of E&P experience with what were Britain’s two leading independent oil companies, Britoil and Enterprise Oil, as a geologist and manager. With Enterprise he was President and General Manager of Enterprise Oil’s Gulf of Mexico business, where he gained extensive experience with deepwater development. He served as Chief Geologist for Enterprise, responsible for the worldwide view of prospects and development, while Enterprise was the world’s largest independent oil company.
He also gained extensive knowledge of E&P projects while working in the United Kingdom, Indonesia and Italy. Dr. Jackson holds a BSc from St. Andrews University and a PhD from Edinburgh University.
