  • China Energy Event - Paris, June 8, 2011

China Energy Event

IHS CERA is hosting the China Energy Event in Paris on June 8.

In March 2011 the Chinese government formally issued its Twelfth Five Year Plan (FYP) for 2011–15. The FYP generally outlines key targets that the government would like to achieve during each five-year planning period. As detailed plans for different sectors are being drafted, many companies are wondering what the current FYP will mean for their operations and future strategies.

At this event IHS CERA experts will present fundamentals outlooks for the oil, gas, power, and coal sectors in China in the context of the Twelfth FYP and recent global events such as the turmoil in North Africa and Japan's nuclear crisis:

  • What is the likelihood that the key numerical targets proposed in the FYP for the energy sector and the economy will be achieved in the next five years? How fast will emerging fuels and technologies such as renewables, nuclear, and natural gas grow?
  • Is the Chinese economy really overheating? If so, what are the implications for energy demand and supply in the near term?
  • What is the future of coal in China's energy sector? Will coal demand growth in traditional consumption sectors such as power generation and iron and steel moderate? Will coal gasification technology (e.g., coal-to-liquids, coal-to-olefins, and coal-to-methane) create new demand for coal?
  • In light of the recent turmoil in North Africa and the crisis in Japan, will energy security become more important in China? Will China change its nuclear power development plan?
