DOJ rules and standards for implementing titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Department of Justice (DOJ) published titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Pub. L. 101-336, 42 U.S.C. 12131-12134 and 12181-12189 in 1991, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability by public entities and in places of public accommodation and commercial facilities. These accessibility standards have been developed to assure compliance with the ADA requirements.

The available document in this collection covers new construction alterations for public accommodations and commercial facilities related to the ADA accessibility. Design and technical specification requirements relating to ADA accessibility are included in this document for items such as:

- Sinks
- Windows
- Doors
- Telephones
- Benches
These requirements apply to facilities such as restaurants and cafeterias, medical care facilities, libraries, and businesses.
