IHS Jane's is hosting an Online Intelligence Briefing on Navigating the Emerging Defence Markets: Thailand on May 24, 2012.

Thailand is forecast by IHS Jane’s to increase core defence spending by 14 per cent between 2012 and 2016, with total expenditure reaching more than USD30 billion during the five-year period. Total defence procurement investment during this period will reach nearly USD6 billion.

In fulfilling its military requirements, analysis suggests that the Southeast Asian country will continue to favour acquisitions of military systems and platforms from a wide variety of nations as it seeks to address a growing number of strategic internal and external challenges.

Thailand’s defence market offers potential gains but challenges for potential vendors will remain. These include a lack of transparency in procurement, political instability, frequent delays in acquisition programmes and a low level of indigenous industrial capability.

This IHS Jane’s report addresses the obstacles to success in the Thailand defence market and provides analysis on industry participation practices; international relationships; spending forecasts; procurement strategies; and defence industrial intelligence.
