Basin Data (International)
The IHS Basin Dataset offers the largest set of basin studies and related geological data for worldwide analysis of petroleum systems and plays. A component of our International Exploration and Production Database, our basins module contains information on more than 480 basins, worldwide. Data has been collected for decades from multiple public and private sources.
Easy Access to Basin AnalysisThe IHS Basin Dataset offers the largest set of basin studies and related geological data for global analysis of petroleum systems and plays. E&P technical teams use this type of data to analyze existing reserves and determine opportunities for future exploration.
Petroleum System and Play Data for 480 Basins
The Basin Dataset provides a detailed geological description of the various stratigraphic sequences (genetic units).
- Petroleum systems description combines details of potential and proven source rocks with Plays.
- Plays data gives detailed (lithostratigraphic) description of reservoirs, seals and traps.
- Play definition is integrated with the reservoir description in the Field database and offers a unique dataset to determine the real potential of producing or prospective plays.
- Our Basin Dataset is the only dataset in the world that allows reserves distribution, risk analysis and yet-to-find analysis on the play level.
Exploration, Development and Production History
This section summarizes past activity and success to help you evaluate opportunities and risks for future exploration in the basin.
Multiple Images, such as stratigraphic charts, tectonic, structural and stratigraphic distribution maps, geological cross-sections and representative well log or seismic sections, help you quickly understand the main characteristics of the basin.
A worldwide set of Geological Layers is available with main structural elements (major fault zones), oceanic features like wrench faults, oceanic magnetic anomalies and salt domes assist to map geological trends.
E&P Data Integration
Our dataset's ability to integrate exploration and production data extends your reach beyond solely geographical interpretations. The unique links between geology, petroleum systems, plays and exploration and production data, as shown in the schematic below, provide easy access to and detailed analysis of exploration success and reserves for different geological units.
