Joint Electronic Device Engineering Councils (JEDEC)
JEDEC standards apply to the integrated circuit and semiconductor industry.
-
JEDEC, formerly known as the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Councils, publishes standards for the integrated circuit and semiconductor industry. Some of the key activities undertaken by JEDEC recently include the development of standards for flash memory and mobile memory/MCP.
JEDEC’s standards ensure product interoperability, benefiting the industry and ultimately consumers by decreasing time-to-market and reducing product development costs. For example, JEDEC semiconductor memory standards enabled developments in products such as PCs, servers, digital cameras, MP3 players, smart phones, automotive and HDTV.
JEDEC is accredited by ANSI and maintains liaisons with numerous standards bodies throughout the world.
Some of the key standards areas addressed by JEDEC lately include:
- Flash memory: SSDs, UFS, e-MMC™
- Mobile memory: LPDDR2, Memory MCP
- Main memory: DDR3 SDRAM
- Memory module design file registrations
- Lead-free manufacturing
- Fiber optics systems: military and space applications
- Registered outlines: JEP95
- Memory configurations: JESD21-C
