The collection of safety standards contains documents created by US standard developing organizations (SDO) that are referenced within OSHA 1910, Occupational Health and Safety Standards. The federal regulation covers general worker safety issues such as:
- Walking and working surfaces
- Means of egress
- Occupational health and environmental control
- Personal protective equipment
- Medical and first aid
- Fire protection
- Machinery and machine guarding
- Electrical
- Commercial diving operations
The federal regulation does not graphically or numerically detail many of the engineering aspects required for compliance. Instead, it references more standards developed by SDOs particular to the specific subject.
