      Michael Marinovic heads up the corporate strategy and planning consulting team at IHS. He helps companies create shareholder value by improving the quality of their capital investment and business strategy decisions. He joined the IHS CERA organization after being a Partner in the Strategic Decisions Group (SDG) . Prior to that, Mr. Marinovic had a long career at the Exxon Chemical Company, holding both technical and operating positions. He holds a BS and ME in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Stanford University.

      Vice President, Strategic Advisory & Transaction Support

      Justin Pettit, Vice President of Strategic Advisory and Transaction Support for IHS Consulting, advises financial sponsors, sovereign wealth funds, corporate boards and senior executives on corporate and portfolio strategy, valuation, M&A and major capital decisions. He is also an expert in JVs, financial strategy and capital market issues, strategic risk management, economic performance measurement and management and strategic transformation.

      Mr. Pettit’s advisory career has focused at the intersection of corporate strategy and corporate finance for a wide range of clients around the world. Originally a process technology and development engineer in the auto industry, he moved to corporate development with Norcen Energy Resources after his MBA.

      Mr. Pettit is the author of two books, Merge Ahead: Mastering the Five Enduring Trends of Artful M&A (McGraw-Hill 2009), and Strategic Corporate Finance: Applications in Valuation & Capital Structure (Wiley 2007).  He is a contributing editor for the journal, Strategy + Business, has been published in over a dozen business journals, including Harvard Business Review and Morgan Stanley’s Journal of Applied Corporate Finance. He is also a referee for The Journal of Quantitative Finance and The Journal of Pension Economics and Finance. 

      A popular guest lecturer at business schools and public conferences such as the Brookings Institute, Financial Management Association and Finance Executives Institute, Mr. Pettit leads topics in strategy, valuation, capital markets, risk management and financial policy.

      Managing Director, IHS Consulting

      Sang-Won Kim, Managing Director for IHS Consulting, leads the strategy consulting services group. He specializes in developing strategies for clients facing complex decisions and has expertise in all segments of the energy value chain.

      He has advised leading energy companies in portfolio strategy, project development, risk management and unconventional resources. Decision support systems he built as part of his advisory services are still in use by many of his clients. Prior to joining IHS Consulting, he was a Senior Engagement Manager with Strategic Decisions Group, a boutique strategy consulting firm. He joined IHS Consulting when IHS acquired the SDG Oil and Gas Practice. Dr. Kim holds a BS from Hong-Ik University, Seoul in Industrial Engineering and an MS and a PhD in Management Science from Stanford University. His area of research at Stanford was decision analysis. He also taught an enterprise risk management course at Stanford University.

      Based in Singapore, Tony Nash manages the non-energy and public sector consulting practice for IHS Consulting. Prior to joining IHS, he was responsible for the growth of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s customized research business, with focus on Asia’s governments and multinational firms.

      His project experience includes building forecasting scenarios of the consumer goods sectors in China’s local markets; market sizing for specialized automotive products across India, Russia and Africa; assisting with negotiating frameworks for bilateral free trade and environmental agreements; and benchmarking national competitiveness of technology, financial services and other industry sectors across developed and developing markets.

      He has a Masters degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and a BA in Business Management from Texas A&M University. Mr. Nash is a frequent speaker and facilitator of strategic discussions with business and government leaders.

      Dr. Fullenbaum, Vice President of Public Sector Consulting at IHS, has over 25 years of experience in economic policy analysis and the application of economic principles to a diverse set of policy and program activities. Dr. Fullenbaum is leading efforts to increase the firm’s presence in the federal sector and its involvement in policy-related research and applications.

      He has previously served at the Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President under three administrations. After leaving the federal government, Dr. Fullenbaum worked for Standard & Poor’s DRI, where he was VP and director of government research. Subsequently, he was a managing partner at M&R Associates, a management consulting firm specializing in resource economics, tax and regulatory issues, regional economics and small business research.

      Dr. Fullenbaum holds a BA in history from Temple University and an MA and PhD in economics from the University of Maryland.

      Irena Agalliu, Managing Consultant for IHS, is an expert in energy law, economics, worldwide oil and gas fiscal arrangements and regulatory and aboveground risk management in relation to the exploration and production industry. Agalliu holds a Masters of Laws in petroleum law, policy and economics from the University of Dundee and a law degree from the University of Houston.
    • Kurt Barrow, Managing Director in the Downstream Energy

      Kurt Barrow, Managing Director in the Downstream Energy group of IHS Consulting, provides technical, commercial and strategic advice to a diversity of clients in the  midstream and downstream petroleum and biofuels space. Formerly a Vice President with Purvin & Gertz, Mr. Barrow leads a consulting team that specializes in mergers and acquisitions, crude oil and refined products market analysis, strategic analysis and technical assessments.

      Prior to consulting, Kurt began his career at the Exxon Baytown Refinery in various engineering and planning roles. Mr. Barrow also worked in Singapore for Purvin & Gertz for six years. Mr. Barrow was the lead author for the Purvin & Gertz Pricing and Margins module of the Global Petroleum Market Outlook service and the director of the Residual Fuel Market Outlook study.

      Rick Chamberlain, Vice President of IHS Cera’s Upstream Oil and Gas Consulting Practice, leads a highly experienced team of consultants, comprised of geologists, engineers, economists and lawyers. The team uses comprehensive IHS databases, combined with IHS Insight and Analysis and propriety software to assist clients in moving quickly toward high quality investment decisions.  Mr. Chamberlain’s expertise covers upstream Oil and gas, unconventionals, asset valuation, LNG, risk assessment and strategy development.

      Previously, Rick was a Senior Engagement Manager in Strategic Decisions Group’s (SDG) Oil and Gas Practice. Prior to SDG, he spent 19 years managing exploration and development programs, designing EOR programs, developing strategic plans for North American Business Units and consulting worldwide on project management issues with Chevron Corporation. In his current position, he assists leadership teams in making quality “big-bet” decisions by crafting value-creating alternatives and understanding the impact of risks.

      In addition, his team provides buyers of Energy and Natural Resource companies and assets an independent view on markets and business environment, viability of strategies and tactics of the acquisition target, and value of the deal  to the buyer, while identifying and reducing risks inherent to acquisitions.”

      Steve Fekete, Managing Director of Downstream Energy Consulting, is based in the firm’s Calgary office with a focus on crude oil valuation (including crude oil quality banks), heavy crude oil developments, acquisition and merger due diligence assistance, and technology and market reviews for financing and other purposes.

      Mr. Fekete has broad experience concerning the downstream energy markets, including crude oil valuation, petroleum product review, asset due diligence and valuation and expert witness support. Mr. Fekete is a recognized expert concerning the development and administration of crude oil quality banks as well as heavy oil developments, including the Canadian Oil Sands and global unconventional production. Steve has performed a wide range of studies focused on asset acquisition due diligence and valuation (including refinery, upgraders, pipeline and terminals), technology review for financing purposes (Independent Engineer), crude oil valuation, and a large number market reviews concerning crude oil and petroleum products.  He has also been a regular speaker at a number of industry conferences. Prior to joining Purvin & Gertz, Steve gained experience at several USGC refining and petrochemical facilities as a process engineer and later in the planning and optimization groups.

      Mark Hutchinson, IHS Managing Director, leads the IHS Consulting Asian energy consulting group. An 18-year resident of Asia, Mark has considerable experience in many parts of the fuel and power value chain across Asia.

      Mr. Hutchinson has performed numerous gas and power market assessments, valuations, due diligence and entry and exit strategies for energy companies; market restructuring analyses; asset evaluation; lenders due diligence; and project and debt financings.

      Mr. Hutchinson holds a Bachelor of Economics from Earlham College and a Master of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

      Jim Thomas, Vice President of IHS Consulting (Upstream, Oil & Gas), brings 20 years of upstream oil and gas experience and also leads our regulatory practice.

      Before joining IHS in 1999, Jim was a senior consultant with Petroconsultants, an environmental manager with Atkins Environment with secondment on a part-time basis to the UK Environment Agency. Prior to this, he was a technical geochemical analyst with BP. Jim holds a B.Sc. degree in Geology from the University of Leeds and a Ph.D in Organic Geochemistry from the University of Bristol. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society.

      Don Bari, Senior Director of Chemical Consulting for IHS, has responsibility for the global business groups within the chemical consulting group, including commodity and specialty chemicals, renewables, technology, transaction, strategy and litigation support.

      Prior to joining IHS (CMAI) in 2010, Mr. Bari worked at an international chemicals and energy consultancy as Senior Vice President and Director, starting in 1981. Throughout his 35 year career, he has managed and directed numerous studies consisting of technology, economic, commercial, financial and environmental issues associated with a variety of bio, specialty and petrochemical-based projects. Mr. Bari has worked with clients and projects in 50 countries with a focus in the Americas and Asia. As such, he has a significant amount of experience in the concept-to-commercialization projects, project valuations and the development of project financing feasibility studies. From 1975 to 1981, he was a Process Design Chemical Engineer at Kvaerner (John Brown Constructors and formerly Crawford and Russell).

      Mr. Bari holds a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MBA with a Finance specialty, both from the University of Connecticut.

      Global Managing Director of Renewable and Bio-based in IHS Chemical Consulting

      Mark Morgan, Global Managing Director of Renewable and Bio-based Chemicals for IHS Chemical Consulting, leads a new business initative in the bio-based chemical sector, providing consulting services to chemical majors through private equity and venture capital firms, as well as lending institutions.

      Dr. Morgan joined IHS Chemical in 2011 with the acquisition of CMAI. He has over 25 years experience in the chemical industry, initially beginning his career in research and development with BP, before joining Chem Systems, an industry-leading consulting firm in the mid 1990s. More recently Dr. Morgan has developed an extensive capability in the bio-based chemicals sector covering commodity and specialty chemicals, as well as biofuels.

      Dr. Morgan hold a BS and PhD in Chemical Physics, both degrees from Bristol University.

      Michael Robinet, Managing Director of IHS Automotive Consulting, is a leader and innovator in global production forecasting, analyzing vehicle/component sourcing and production strategies to serve OEM, supplier, financial and government entities throughout the industry. Mr. Robinet’s field of expertise includes global vehicle product and capacity forecasting, future product program intelligence, platform consolidation and globalization trends, trade flow/sourcing strategies, and OEM footprint/logistics trends. In his previous role as Director of IHS Automotive Global Production Forecasts, Mr. Robinet helped designed the world’s first contiguous database designed to forecast sales, production, and sourcing linkages for the global automotive industry. 

      Mr. Robinet has over two decades of experience in automotive forecasting, strategic analysis and manufacturing finance. Before joining IHS, he was Vice President, Global Vehicle Forecasts at CSM Worldwide. He worked at various research companies and was schooled in finance at a major tier one supplier. He has also been widely quoted in worldwide print, radio and TV media on a variety of industry trends and topics focused on the global automotive industry, and he presents regularly at global OEM and supplier conferences and symposiums.

      Mr. Robinet holds an undergraduate degree in international and developmental economics and an MBA, both from the University of Windsor, Canada. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and a member of the Automotive Press Association (APA).  Michael is a board member of the Society of Automotive Analysts (SAA), founding director of the Canada-US Business Association (CUSBA), a member of the Detroit Economic Club (DEC) as well as a participant on  the Canadian Automotive Partnership Council's (CAPC) Trade and Infrastructure Committee.

      Mohsen Bonakdarpour, Director of the Strategy and Planning Group for IHS Consulting, is responsible for economic analysis and directs advisory projects across various industry sectors. 

      Mr. Bonakdarpour has experience in global industry and macroeconomic analysis. He has worked with a wide range of clients, helping them to size their markets, predict product demand and to better target their marketing efforts. He has led a series of studies and developed methodologies to undertake economic impact analysis, and he has managed the development of IHS Business Market Insight, designed to support strategic planning, market segmentation and economic development analysis. Mohsen was also responsible for development of a global Information and Communication Technology database.

    Herausforderung: Ein globales OEM-Unternehmen in der Automobilindustrie wollte seine Produktangebote ausweiten und sein Markenimage verbessern, um Marktanteile zu gewinnen und jüngere, wohlhabendere Verbraucher anzuziehen.

    Fallstudie - Analyse der wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen

    Quantifizierung der wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen eines Unternehmens auf politische Entscheidungsträger

    Herausforderung: Ein globales Hi-Tech-Unternehmen musste politische Entscheidungsträger über seinen Beitrag zur Wirtschaft in den USA und in der EU informieren, der durch seine Produktionsoperationen entstand, und über die Produktivitätssteigerungen, die dem weit verbreiteten Gebrauch seiner Technologie zuzuschreiben waren.

    Lösung: IHS Consulting kombinierte sowohl herkömmliche Ein-/Ausgabemodelle mit Wachstumsökonomie-Frameworks, um eine umfassende Beurteilung zu erstellen.

    Ergebnisse: Der Kunde konnte aufzeigen, dass sein Unternehmen in den USA die Schaffung von mehr als 820.000 Arbeitsplätzen stimuliert und 1,1 % des BIP beeinflusst hatte. In der EU betrugen die entsprechenden Zahlen 330.000 Arbeitsplätze und 0,4 % des BIP.

    Herausforderung: Um die mit Multimilliarden-Dollar-Investitionen verbundenen regulatorischen Risiken zu managen, beauftragte ein Öl- und Gaskonzern IHS Consulting mit der Entwicklung eines umfassenden Compliance-Managementsystems.
