Russian Petrochemicals
The Russian petrochemical industry in recent years has seen its competitiveness in many products increase on the back of an advantageous feedstock position and higher international prices.
At the same time, the domestic demand in Russia has continued to grow strongly, and this has led to Russia swinging from a net exporter to importer for some key petrochemicals and polymers.

Since the end of the Soviet era there has been relatively little major investment in new petrochemical facilities in Russia with producers focusing on upgrading and stretching existing assets. Overall, this has been good news for Russian producers and now the growth in demand coupled with a very competitive cost position has resulted in the drive to expand even further with several major new projects being planned and the first now under construction.
