Your feedback has contributed to action plans to improve the IHS Automotive suite of products. Please read about the following recent and upcoming product enhancements.

        Expanded Content

As part of our commitment to offering new insight into the automotive marketplace, we have added two new products to our portfolio:

        • IHS Automotive Forecast Simulation Tool
An optional add-on module to our Light Vehicles Sales Forecast, this tool enables OEMs and National Sales Companies (NSCs) to create what-if simulations to anticipate and plan for alternative futures. Clients use the tool to:
          • Analyze the implications of simulations and to improve communication between critical stakeholders
          • Reduce the risk of strategic investment decisions by simulating and testing different product strategies
          • Assess the impact of simulations on your product plans and your competitors' product plans
          • Respond quickly to management requests for alternate forecasts based on changing market conditions
        • IHS Automotive OEM Strategic Analytics
With over 4,000 interactive charts, the service provides the most complete and consistent coverage with which to analyze the strategic outlook of the 12 largest OEMs through 2017. The depth and breadth of the integrated forecasts, methodology and commentary allow OEMs and suppliers to more confidently plan their portfolios, project financial performance and comprehensively benchmark against peers.

        Improved Interface

On 20 March 2013 we launched a new version of IHS AutoInsight. The new version includes significant enhancements, many inspired by clients’ comments and suggestions. Improvements include:

        • New look and feel: Uncluttered layouts make it easier to read and navigate
        • Better performance: You no longer have to wait while large queries execute. You can continue your work and be notified when the query results are ready to download. This feature removes the size limit on downloads and eliminates time-out and try-later issues
        • MyBook: Create virtual books by selecting documents from the Insight tab. Books can be refreshed with updated forecasts and saved, shared and printed as PDFs
        • Color coding: Query results display actual and forecast vehicle volume in different colors for LV Sales and LV Production forecasts
        • Export Cycle Plan charts: Export the bar Cycle Plan charts to Excel with an accompanying data table. See changes to the underlying data reflected immediately on the chart itself
        • Query details: Query details now appear as a header in Excel exports
        • Dictionaries: All-new dictionaries in a dedicated section provide definitions for all attributes and their values
        • Improved maps: Plant locations are more visible, you can export maps with plant labels and access plants information directly from the map, including plant capacity
        • Tooltips: Move your pointer over an attribute to view its definition
        • Export Module: The Export Module is now available in queries

        Improved Usability

On January 22, IHS Automotive added two new mnemonics, referred to as core mnemonics, to the Light Vehicle Production Forecast. This numerical identification will allow you to easily identify the vehicles added or deleted to or from the forecast, as well as enable you to follow a future vehicle throughout its evolution. The two new mnemonics are:

        • Mnemonic Core Vehicle Bodytype Plant (bodytype level—i.e., without door count)
        • Mnemonic Core Vehicle Bodystyle Plant (bodystyle level—i.e., with door count)

      • Chemical

Your feedback has contributed to action plans to improve the IHS Chemical product suite. Please read about the following recent and upcoming product enhancements.

Improved Coverage of Chemical Markets, Companies and Regions

IHS Chemical Research teams are now located in ten different countries providing extensive coverage of chemical market companies and trends across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. This includes two office locations in China, Shanghai and Beijing, reflecting the significant role China plays in the global chemical market.

The Chemical Economics Handbook (CEH) and Specialty Chemicals Update Program (SCUP) have continued to expand global coverage in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia, while the China Report has increased the number of reports from 140 to 152. The Directory of Chemical Producers (DCP) has added 430 new companies to the China database.

        People Remain our Biggest Assets

Our deep industry knowledge continues to set us apart. IHS Chemical maintains the best-of-the-best researchers and consultants on staff. Further strengthening our roster of industry-leading expertise, we are pleased to have added several well-known authorities on global chemical markets to the IHS Chemical family. These experts bring many technical backgrounds, further strengthening our coverage of specialty, inorganic and end-use markets, global plastics and polyolefins, and ethylene in North America and providing deeper knowledge of regional and global light olefins markets, and near-term or long-term aromatics feedstock analysis.

In addition, author, publisher and patent-holder, Dr. Jeffrey S. Plotkin, has joined IHS Chemical to write and lead a series of expanded training and education programs on Industrial Organic Chemistry.

        New Products Lead the Conversation

New, time-sensitive market studies and special reports provide comprehensive analysis of high-profile topics in areas of key interest to the chemical industry. Recent examples include reports on The Influence of Shale Development on the Global Chemical Industry, 2012 China Coal Chemical, Renewable Commodity Plastics, Chemical Building Blocks from Renewables, and Russian Petrochemicals. Studies in progress include The Impact of Shale and Tight Oil on Refining & Petrochemical Industries and Brazilian Specialty Chemicals.

Unique to IHS, and new to IHS Chemical, are formats by which our content, research and expertise are delivered either on-demand, quarterly or annually via live interactive, customer-exclusive multi-client workshops and forums.

We have also launched a new Cost Curve program that provides client with an interactive tool that allows the data to be examined and parsed in many ways. Currently we have models available for ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, chlor-alkali and methanol. Models for EO/EG and parazylene are in development and will be available this summer. These models are being updated twice a year in conjunction with our updates to our long-term forecast updates.

Shifting to Integrated Product Platforms and Delivery

The World Analysis (WA) and World Petrochemicals (WP) have combined to offer 36 chemical market studies that include more plant capacities, more supply and demand data including online Excel graphs, more historical data, and a robust forecast period out ten years.

The CMAI and Harriman Chemsult Chlor-alkali, Soda Ash and Vinyls reports were merged into IHS Chemical Market Advisory Services. These new services offer expanded coverage, more insight and analyses of current market conditions and forecasts of future trends, access to an online database to retrieve our most current forecast for production costs and prices, as well as access to consultants through our inquiry services.

IHS Chemical Week is now available on iPad app as well as via digital edition and business daily along with live updates 24/7 on chemweek.com

IHS Chemical Company Analysis is being upgraded to a more user-friendly format.

        Kingdom Product Enhancements

Kingdom 8.8 offers new geoscience workflow enhancements to streamline your everyday activities, from data loading and interpretation to velocity modeling and rapid depth conversion.

        • Dynamic Depth Conversion - Facilitates easy construction, maintenance and display of time data in the depth domain. This system will automatically integrate associated horizons and well tops into a grid based velocity model providing extremely efficient and accurate interpretation workflows.
        • Designed for Interpreters - As horizons or well tops are interpreted, the model is easily refreshed to reflect the most recent changes or additions and all of the displays are immediately updated to reflect the new information.
        • Reduce cycle time – The traditional cumbersome process of building a velocity model and converting the seismic volumes, horizons and faults to depth is no longer needed. The new and easy to use methodology builds the model and dynamically converts the time data on the fly to depth; what used to take hours or sometimes days, now takes minutes or seconds.

We’ve made improvements to our US Information.

        Updates from 2012:

        • Well Information – Three new data attributes derived from the production data file have been added to the well data file, tying the two data types together. These attributes include Current Operator, Current Well Type and Current Producing Status. Elevation enhancements used with information from our US Log database has also resulted in over 5,500 wells being updated.
        • Production Information - We continue to build out our new Production Accumulation System which is allowing us to deliver Production Data to you in a timelier manner.
        • Horizontal Data - To date we have updated approximately 88,000 wells with these critical attributes and will be populating them for all new horizontal wells added to the Well data:
          • Total horizontal displacement length
          • Lateral hole length
          • Maximum deviation angle
          • Build-up radius
          • Primary geologic formation

        New Content for the US

        • Drilling and Completions Benchmarking - As capital costs increase, a complete understanding of drilling and completions performance is critical for operators to improve drilling and completion performance while reducing costly non-productive time. Drilling and Completions Benchmarking for Gulf of Mexico Offshore and US Completions Onshore provides clients with benchmarking tools that aggregate and normalize key performance indicators for new well drills and completions.
        • US Land Data – IHS now offers subscribers the ability to subscribe to US Land databases containing millions of Federal and State Land Records. Fee or private oil and gas lease data is also available for the Bakken play of North Dakota and the Niobrara play of NE Colorado and SE Wyoming. With this database, customers can query, report, map, download and analyze land use and ownership information.
        • US Oil & Gas Pipeline and Facilities Data - The United States pipeline data is now accessible in Enerdeq Browser to subscribers, and both pipeline and facility data can be delivered in standard spatial layer delivery formats. The pipeline data can be viewed in tandem with the IHS US Well and Production data.
        • Major Industrial Plant Database - The Major Industrial Plant Database (MIPD) provides key data on the energy consumption profile including natural gas and oil use by type for over 17,000 US plants with contact details.

        Data Quality Enhancements

        • Play names and types - While still very much a work in progress that will continue to evolve based on customer and expert feedback, our play names and types project has seen us add play names to nearly 200,000 wells in the Rocky Mountains, Appalachians, Michigan and Illinois. Along with those names, we have also categorized those plays into the following play types that include:
          • Tight oil
          • Tight gas
          • Shale gas
          • Shale oil
          • Coalbed Methane
          • Rejuvenated play—horizontal drilling
        • Texas Survey Name Standardization
        • IHS undertook an effort to standardize over 90% of Texas Survey names. Over 1,000 records were extensively researched and we have reduced 884 unique names to 437 unique standardized condensed names.
        • IHS Enerdeq® Browser and IHS Energy Web Services now provide extended functionality that allow users to more rapidly query, report and export US Well and US Production entities based on play type and play name.

        IHS EDIN Enhancements

We continue to improve EDIN by adding new content and additional functionality. Recent enhancements to EDIN have added the capability to analyze Unconventional Plays and have extended the Midstream content into North America.

        Unconventional Plays

Access to Unconventional Plays has been added to the Basins subscription. Now within EDIN you can search for Unconventional Plays with specific characteristics, generate detailed play monitors and map the results.

A range of information is available for each play, including:

        • Geological and tectonic settings
        • Resource – Both in place and recoverable
        • Reserves – Discovered (roll up from Field database)
        • Essential data (Top depth, Thickness, TOC, Vitrinite Reflectance, Temperature and Hydrogen Index)
        • A concise summary and analysis of exploration activity. This is continually monitored and any relevant updates will drive changes through the database
        • Details of rights holders
        • High level commentary on economics and regulatory information and analysis

The coverage of Unconventional Plays is being extended with the initial focus upon high-potential plays and will be rolled out on a regional basis throughout 2013.

        Major Industrial Plant Database

Additional information from the Major Industrial Plant Database (MIPD) has been added to the Midstream Industrial Plant subject within EDIN. The MIPD adds critical information for the North American market that enables gas marketers to identify potential gas customers by size and energy consumption profile within the gas supply infrastructure. The MIPD provides users with access to a number of additional reports for the industrial plants :

        • Plant Energy and Contact Summary
        • Pipelines within 20 miles
        • Distribution Company (LDC) Access
        • Boiler Details

        North American Pipelines

A new Midstream subject, North American Pipelines, has been added to EDIN enabling you to search for and to map pipelines in the North American market. The US Pipeline access has become a critical factor to the profitability of exploration and production projects in the United States, and in particular, high profile concerns to unconventional oil and gas resource development. Many new oil and gas plays are in remote areas historically with limited local market requirements. Thus the distance to the transport network and which markets can be accessed via this network are often make-or-break project variables.

        GeoMagnetic Anomaly Raster Map Layer

A new raster map layer showing GeoMagnetic Anomalies has been added to the Geology layers. This map content is included within the subscription to the Basin Database and enables users to gain insight into the subsurface structure and composition of the Earth’s crust. Over continental areas, magnetic anomalies give information on the geologic, tectonic and geothermal evolution of the crust and lithosphere.
